AECOM is seeking a Civil Engineering Intern to be based in our Burnaby, British Columbia office.
This position is expected to start in January 2026.
While this is a co-op position, the ideal successful candidate will have a general understanding of civil design, construction, and some experience in civil engineering. They will be expected to work successfully within a team environment and be able to communicate effectively with other project team members and clients. They will have a high level of initiative, motivation, and display drive, energy, and enthusiasm for getting things done!
The successful candidate will be expected to support the delivery of linear conveyance infrastructure to customers mostly within the municipal stormwater, water, and wastewater sector.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Perform assignments requiring the application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to carry out engineering tasks. Assignments are designed to further develop judgement and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.
Assist in the design of civil systems associated with municipal water and/or wastewater /drainage conveyance facilities
Assist in the writing of technical memorandums and reports
Performing construction inspections
Prepare engineering-related calculations and develop drawings and visual aids.
Develop solutions for routine technical problems with limited scope.
Assisting with the preparation of construction cost estimates
Assisting with the preparation of project specifications and contract documents
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental, Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, Process Engineering, or other related field and must have completed at least 2 years of study.
Candidates who have recently graduated with a bachelor's degree and plan to continue with the master's degree are eligible to apply for this position. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their Bachelor's Degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in civil engineering, construction, hydraulic modelling, planning, and design construction Knowledge of water / wastewater / drainage conveyance infrastructure in a Municipal environment
Knowledge of blue and green infrastructure: ponds, wetlands, bioswales, raingardens, etc.
Proficient with MS Office Suite
Excellent attention to detail
Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors and clients
Comfortable working in a multi-disciplinary environment
Experience with AutoCAD/ Civil 3D
