Skills and Qualifications
A Level 3 Designer will have a minimum of 3 years’ experience, and have successfully passed through Levels 1 and 2 in good standing. A Level 3 Designer will be working more independently and towards gaining additional experience and knowledge, with more complicated engineering projects. Engineering work will be completed correctly and reliance on senior engineers for advice will start to diminish. Experience, professional development and upgrading skills are the main attributes of these levels. Candidate will have strong technical design skills with problem solving abilities and academic knowledge of structural concepts and building systems, and extensive knowledge of building code and building component elements related to the industry. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, in addition to time management skills, have been developed. Comprehensive knowledge of Parts 4 and 9 of the Ontario Building Code, in addition to other local and national building codes, is expected. Continuing education as part of the Professional Development program will also be expected. In addition, Level 3 candidates must have previously obtained BCIN designations for Legal and Structural, and will work towards obtaining P.Eng. designation status for Design Level 5.
Travel will be required, primarily in Southern Ontario, and the candidate must have a valid Ontario Driver’s License and their own vehicle.
