Job Summary


United Gulf Development Ltd (UG) is seeking a skilled and experienced Civil Engineer to join our team. United Gulf has been operating in the fields of residential and commercial development including land development, and construction of townhouse, multi-family buildings and commercial properties throughout the HRM and surrounding areas since the early 1990's.

Through retaining interests in some of their development projects UG has expanded from the role of developer and builder to become a major landlord for both residential and commercial space.

As an

Executive Civil Engineer

you will be responsible for engaging and overseeing work of both design consultants and inhouse staff through providing technical oversite and "value engineering" advice, as well as assisting with project scheduling and expediting projects for United Gulf and affiliated companies.

You will be responsible for overseeing and contributing to finding opportunities and doing feasibility analysis for new projects and then carrying through with the oversite of design, expediting permits and approvals and managing infrastructure projects in both the public and private sectors as well assisting the company principals in various ways related to your role.

The successful candidate

must have:

a strong technical background in civil engineering, excellent communication and time management skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Extensive experience in land development and related fields is essential.
The ideal candidate should have experience in

site engineering, construction, and project management with an emphasis on value engineering.



Responsibilities



Engage and oversee work of Engineering and other consultants for compliance with project schedules, objectives and value engineering. Design and develop small infrastructure projects, including all aspects of subdivision design and building siting. Analyze survey reports, maps, and other data to plan and design projects. Conduct feasibility studies and cost analyses to determine project viability. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and requirements. Make applications for appropriate permits to HRM, HW and other approval agencies and follow up to expedite their review. Collaborate with project managers, architects, and other professionals to ensure project success. Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and timelines. Conduct site investigations, feasibility studies, and conceptual design reports. Prepare engineering designs, specifications, and cost estimates for infrastructure projects. Oversee construction and maintenance projects providing technical support and guidance to project teams Maintain accurate records and documentation for all projects

Mandatory Qualifications



Eligibility for registration in APENS. Minimum 10 years of experience in civil engineering design and construction Strong organizational skills to plan, schedule, monitor, and expedite projects through design, design approval, construction and commissioning. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Desirable Attributes Competence in AutoCAD 3-D, and other standard municipal engineering software programs. Experience with project management and construction administration, particularly, familiarity with Halifax development rules and regulations for land development and building permitting, or those of other jurisdictions. Knowledge of municipal servicing construction, estimating, contracting, and related details. Experience in preparing multi-year project schedules, and cash-flow projections. Knowledge in related fields such as interpretation of legal documents, preparation of construction contracts and purchase and sale agreements, feasibility studies, etc. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills Strong technical skills in design, analysis, and project management.
