Job Description

Job Summary

The Civil Construction Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for dirt-works projects, including earthwork, site preparation, and grading. You'll analyze project plans, perform quantity takeoffs, and develop bids that ensure profitability while remaining competitive. This role is critical to our success as we expand into contracting, requiring strong analytical skills and expertise in heavy civil construction.

Responsibilities

Estimate Preparation

: Analyze blueprints, specifications, and site conditions to prepare detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.

Quantity Takeoffs

: Perform accurate takeoffs for earthwork volumes, grading, and other dirt-works tasks using estimating software (e.g., HeavyBid, Trimble, PlanSwift).

Bid Development

: Collaborate with management to develop competitive bids for public and private projects, including site prep, road construction, and commercial developments.

Supplier Coordination

: Maintain a database of suppliers and subcontractors, negotiating rates and sourcing materials.

Risk Analysis

: Identify project risks (e.g., soil conditions, weather) and incorporate contingencies into estimates.

Client Interaction

: Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client discussions to clarify scope and ensure bid accuracy.

Documentation

: Maintain detailed records of estimates, bids, and project correspondence for future reference.
Qualifications

Experience

: Minimum 3-5 years of experience in civil construction estimating, with a focus on dirt-works, earthwork, or heavy civil projects.

Education

: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred; equivalent experience accepted.

Technical Skills

: Proficiency in estimating software (HeavyBid, Trimble Business Center, or similar) and Microsoft Office. Familiarity with AutoCAD or Bluebeam is a plus.

Knowledge

: Strong understanding of heavy equipment capabilities, earthwork processes, and construction methodologies.

Analytical Skills

: Ability to interpret plans, specs, and geotechnical reports to produce accurate estimates.

Communication

: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for client and team interactions.

Licenses

: Valid driver's license required; ability to visit project sites.
Job Type: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months

Pay: $80,000.00-$115,000.00 per year
