This is professional archaeology work that provides professional advice and direction in archaeological resource planning and management to operation and field staff, partner groups and other departments. An incumbent will be required to review and provide professional advice on technical plans and studies provided by Archaeology Consultants; apply for/renew City\xe2\x80\x99s Provincial Multi-Assessment Permit used for routine maintenance and emergency work. The incumbent provides input into City planning processes to reduce risk of impacting archaeological resources, such as capital project planning and master plan processes; reviews, collects, and maintains data useful to assessing risk of impacting an archaeological resource on City lands. Coordinates the selection and evaluates the work of archaeology consultant vendors for City projects; advises supervisor of evolving policy issues that require further attention and analysis, and supports work to update City policies related to archaeology. In addition, the incumbent will develop partnerships and consult with First Nations to determine the nature of Indigenous rights and potential for infringements as it pertains to archaeological studies and/or site alternations; conducts workshops and training on policies and procedures related to the work, including development of chance find procedures. Performs related work as required.

Qualification include completion of a Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in archaeology or anthropology with a specialization in archaeology, plus considerable post-graduate training and considerable related experience in archaeological resource management related to infrastructure or public works projects is preferred; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The incumbent will have considerable knowledge of the rules and regulations governing archaeology in British Columbia; knowledge of and experience working with Indigenous peoples, specifically the Musqueam, Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh, and Kwikwetlem First Nations. Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, techniques, methods and procedures applicable to projects or initiatives that relate to infrastructure, archaeology, planning and land use and/or resources management. The incumbent will have knowledge of provincial regulatory bodies, municipal staff and other levels of government. A Driver\xe2\x80\x99s Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required. Additionally, the incumbent will be required to be eligible for Professional Membership in the British Columbia Association of Professional Archaeologists.
