7.5 hours/day @ an Elementary School in the Surrey School District

About us:



West Coast Kids Cancer Foundation (WCK) is a charity that supports families navigating childhood cancer and blood disorders with small actions that make a big impact every day. Our families need food, connection, resources, and mental health support. We help families feel held and heard through family-led programming that eases the burden.

About City Camp:



City Camp is the only day camp in B.C. where kids aged 5-12 / siblings of kids with cancer and blood disorders can join in on all the magic of camp while being able to sleep in their own bed at night. Hosted in close proximity to the hospital and with a medical team on-site, kids on treatment never have to miss out on the camp experience.

Position in a nutshell:



The Behaviour Supports are responsible for dealing with campers' mental and emotional health needs as they arise. Along with the Behaviour Lead, they assess campers' needs, support them in regulation techniques, and adapt creative solutions for camper success. The Behaviour Supports work one-on-one with campers and promote positive engagement among the overall group. They advise wider team members on implementing safe, fun, and inclusive programming.

You are confident and comfortable supporting children with complex behavioural needs. You're a problem solver who is able to adapt quickly and find creative solutions. You're a master of building trust and rapport with children and enjoy collaborating with a team to achieve a common goal. You believe wholeheartedly in the power of connection and play.

You want to gain new perspectives and grow your toolbox of strategies to best support children with complex behavioural needs. You want to improve your observation skills, multitasking abilities, adaptability, and interpersonal skills.

As a valued team member, you will:



Implement safe, fun, and inclusive programming that supports children's physical, mental, and emotional needs Execute plans for campers; implement child-led program goals to promote their success Support volunteers to positively manage behavioural challenges with campers, always considering the social, emotional, and cognitive development levels of each camper Assist camp staff with group management, equipment setup, and activity transitions Work one-on-one with campers, offering adapted and alternative activities as needed Model and teach friendship skills to help campers make peer connections Offer a warm, caring, patient presence to campers needing extra assistance Assist children in meeting daily program expectations Supervise and run programming in sensory room as needed Report campers' progress, successes, and concerns to staff Maintain a safe environment via safety inspections, emergency procedures, and crisis intervention techniques

Qualifications and experience:



Post-secondary education in a related field, such as behavioural interventionist, educational assistant, educational resources assistant, special education assistant, childhood education, recreation therapy, social work, counselling, etc. Experience working with children with complex behaviour support needs is essential Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to lead and problem-solve High level of self-motivation and willingness to learn Strong ability to work independently and self-start as well as work dynamically within a team Valid First Aid/CPR certificate are required A clear Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Check Secondary language skills are an asset Experience working with children in crisis situations or crisis prevention training is an asset
