CLCLC is currently seeking an instructor to facilitate a Citizenship Preparation/ English Language Learning class in Picture Butte, AB.
Tuesday evenings, 6:30 - 8:30 pm:
October 7 - December 16, 2025
no class November 11 and
January 21 - April 1, 2026
no class February 18
This is a contract position with 62 total hours.
Starting wage is $28-$30 hour depending on experience
Responsibilities of a Citizenship Instructor:
Presenting the content of the Discover Canada study guide
Providing practice tests
Assisting with English language skills
Helping students understand Canadian history, government, and values
Working with newcomers and/or foundational adult learners, your main responsibility is to help Newcomers prepare for Citizenship. You will be expected to work with adult learners to improve their English reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. This will be a multi level classroom.You will also teach Citizenship preparation. You will need to encourage adult participants to continue their learning by accessing other non-formal learning opportunities in the area. You should be connected with other service organizations in the surrounding communities in order to make knowledgeable referrals to other local providers to support adults to transition to further learning or employment.
To achieve this, you will be supported by the staff at the County of Lethbridge Community Learning Council. Your work will enable adult learners to acquire the skills and develop strategies to improve their lives through education.
You will be a self-starter who displays empathy to newcomers to Canada and English as an Alternative Language Learner. You will enjoy working with adults who face many language and social-economic barriers. You will have demonstrated strong skills in time management and excellent oral and written communication skills. You must have your own vehicle and a valid driver's license. You also must provide a valid police record check including a vulnerable sector check. Preference will be given to applicants with a teaching degree, but a teaching degree is not required.
