POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the Program Supervisor Adult Fitness, Wellness & Inclusion Services, is responsible for supervising the Chronic Disease Management classes within the guidelines established by the Program Supervisor.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
To design and supervise exercise sessions for participants.
If they cannot attend a session, is responsible to make necessary arrangements to have another instructor available and notify the Supervisor as soon as possible.
To ensure overall well-being of participants including socializing when not actively instructing
To answer questions from program participants within the bounds of education, knowledge, experience and available information.
To bring to the attention of their supervisor any unusual developments in the class, equipment or facility breakdown, or any questions for which they are unable to answer.
To communicate participants requests, suggestions and complaints to supervisor. To ensure that program evaluations are handed out, completed and returned to supervisor when required.
To approach their Supervisor with any thoughts on improving the effectiveness of overall program.
To provide leadership in emergency procedures and safety.
Apply principles of exercise physiology and kinesiology to individual participants.
Reports to the supervisor on a regular basis as established and responds in timely fashion to communication.
To inform participants of rules, regulations of the Canada Games Complex and to ensure that participants know in detail the rules that govern the specific area in which the instruction is assigned.
Assist program participants in recognizing the signs and symptoms of distress related to specific chronic disease program.
Participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
Performs other duties as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors degree in exercise science, kinesiology, physical education, or physiotherapy
College diploma specializing in exercise leadership with special groups will be considered
Preference will be give to candidates with an internship or volunteer experience in chronic disease management programs
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Must undergo a successful Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC)
Must obtain Standard First Aid CPR-C within three months of employment
Must obtain WHMIS and customer service training
Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupation Health & Safety Act*
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Part-time (not to exceed 24 hours per week)
Irregular hours
