POSITION SUMMARY
As a member of an interdisciplinary team, the Chiropodist functions interdependently with other Centre staff to provide client-centered care that emphasizes health promotion, disease prevention and client education. The Chiropodist provides comprehensive assessment and treatment of foot disorders, and mechanical problems of lower limbs. The Chiropodist practices according to the Standards of Practice of the College of Chiropodists of Ontario (CO COO) and to guidelines and policies established at East End Community Health Centre.
The Chiropodist works in partnership with other staff and management to support the Vision, Mission, and Values of the Centre.
The Chiropodist participates in the accreditation process, quality improvement initiatives, execution of strategic plans, and implementation of organizational accountability systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide foot and lower limb care by:
conducting client interviews and examinations, making assessments, developing treatment plans, communicating plans to clients, and providing treatment and follow-up care;
ordering, performing and reviewing diagnostic tests;
prescribing medication as needed, and monitoring for effectiveness;
providing nail surgery when appropriate (soft tissue symptoms);
referring clients to other staff or specialists, as appropriate;
making home and satellite clinic visits, as required; and
promoting healthy living choices and providing health education to clients.
Treat problems such as skin infections, foot ulcers or wounds, nail conditions (thick, ingrown, fungal nail), corns, calluses, and warts, cracked heels.
Manage diabetic and arthritic foot problems, bunions, hammer and claw toes as well as MSK issues to foot;
Assist clients to obtain orthotics, if needed, and modify orthotics as appropriate.
Order, stock and maintain chiropody supplies in the office/exam room and the chiropody workroom.
Order, maintain and ensure proper and safe functioning of all chiropody equipment, sending out for repair as required.
Obtain, document and interpret client information and maintain client records according to the standard of medical records at East End CHC, including assuring privacy and confidentiality.
Contribute to the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of clinical protocols.
Provide services following best practice guidelines, and adhering to accepted safety and infection control standards.
Provide consult on client care to other members of the interdisciplinary team.
Participate in chiropody audits and other quality improvement, accreditation and best practice activities.
Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of health education and promotion programs and activities.
Maintain and develop professional competence as defined by the CO COO through appropriate continuing education opportunities, including accredited activities, self-reflection, and performance review, in consultation with the Executive Director; share learnings with all team members.
Advocate on behalf of clients to meet basic health needs and on behalf of the community for healthy public policies.
Mentor, teach and evaluate students on placement at the Centre, as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS
Qualified to register or be registered in good standing with the College of Chiropodists of Ontario.
Three to five years' experience in a health care setting with preferred experience in the community
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team environment
Demonstrated ability, commitment to and knowledge of community health care, social determinants of health and health promotion
Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and anti-racism with a willingness to engage in ongoing learning to increase self-awareness, improve practices and eliminate disparities in health status.
Proficiency in the use of computers and various software applications including EMRs
Experience in program development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation
Excellent interpersonal skills with clients in a culturally diverse practice population, and with colleagues
Excellent communication, decision-making, problem-solving, conflict management and time management skills
Second language, relevant to catchment area populations, is an asset.
