Island Montessori is seeking a Childcare Director. We are a small preschool with a big heart and huge potential. We are a not-for-profit entity, supporting children of all needs through high ratio, high quality support with our committed and hard working educators. We are seeking a passionate individual who will provide leadership, vision, and mentorship to our team. Our preschool has been serving Victoria children ages 30 months to 5 years and their families for 50 years. We are located on the Saanich Peninsula, and offer a beautiful rural setting that provides many opportunities for outdoor exploration and enjoyment. With a current licensed capacity of 39 children and eleven staff members, you would have unlimited opportunities to enhance and develop our dynamic program that offers 2, 3 and 5 full day programs as well as a morning preschool and Before and After School Care. This position will offer Extended Health Benefits after a three-month probation period you will receive paid vacation for Christmas break, Spring break and summer vacation, as well as opportunities for professional development throughout the year. The Childcare Director is responsible for oversight and leadership of the school. Along with the Parent Board, you will be responsible for budgeting and oversight of financial operations; human resource management including recruitment; making strategic decisions regarding the direction an operation of the school; determining staffing needs and requirements according to Childcare Licensing, with the support of the Childcare Manager; enrolment; and creating a positive working atmosphere through strong leadership and mentorship. You will be overseeing a part of a dynamic team of a Childcare Manager, Directresses and Integration Support Workers who work cooperatively and collaboratively together to provide a positive, nurturing and supportive child care environment. Your Responsibility and Duties will include, but are not limited to: Major Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership, planning, organizing, directing, and controlling the day-to day operations of the childcare facility;
  • An ability to inspire, motivate and grow a leadership team through collaboration;
  • The ability to understand the needs of key stakeholders ranging from the Board of Directors, Parents, Administration/HR/Payroll and licensing agencies;
  • Responsible for negotiation on lease (with support of lease committee)
  • Create a sense of inclusivity, community and belonging with the centre, Plan and organize special events at the centre for staff, children, and families. Work closely with centre manager and staff.
Human Resources:
  • Recruit, orient, train, supervise, coach guide, and evaluate staff.
  • Apply for background checks and ensure that employee files are kept up-to-date and complete
  • Resolve interpersonal conflicts among staff members, and/or with parents in a collaborative, constructive and positive manner
Licensing
  • A sound knowledge of childcare licensing requirements
  • Responsible for ensuring that all relevant legislative requirements are met with 100% compliance.
  • In collaboration with childcare manager responsible to ensure a safe environment is maintained.
Operations:
  • Managing administrative tasks such as processing payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, insurance, apply and report monthly grant funding i.e., CCOFP, ACCB and work safe BC reports;
  • Develops both short- and long-term planning in all aspects of school operations through the study of pertinent date \xe2\x80\x93 financial, enrollment, philosophy to facilitate and encourage such planning
  • Market our facility \xe2\x80\x93 Market plan to promote awareness of our facility and its service
  • Responsible for all aspects of budgeting and the implementation of a sound business plan.
  • Commitment and focused attention to ensuring the organization commitments and targets with regards to annual operating plans and budgets, grant proposals.

Job Qualifications/Educational Min. 5 years of experience in a Managerial position, not-for-profit experience preferred; Min. 2 years of experience with administration and/or facility management; Experience in childcare an asset Willingness to obtain an ECE-A certificate (1 month part time course) Proficiency in MS Excel and Google workspace.
