Position Summary



The Child and Youth Care Worker is a member of the interdisciplinary team which assesses, plans, implements and evaluates service plans for a given client. Employees with this designation perform front-line work in the program and carry the responsibility for the daily care, treatment, nurturance, supervision, health and discipline of the clients. The role is extensive and carries with it responsibilities in the counseling, teaching and training areas, as well as recording and reporting. The Child and Youth Care Worker must demonstrate high personal competence in the formation and maintenance of caring, therapeutic relationships.

Primary Functions



Participates in the day-to-day programming / teaching / support and well-being of individuals in the home as it relates to their day-to-day activities including, medical, emotional / mental health, recreation, employment, etc. Teaching of living and social skills through the role modelling of appropriate behaviors and can assess client needs and strengths and use systematic plans of instruction, teaching methods and therapeutic approaches to transfer information and skill to clients Reviews client information and coordinates effective implementation of Healing (Service) Plans and Intervention Plans. Ensures that areas are being addressed on a consistent basis and notifies the Program Coordinator of any client needs related to the Healing Plan. Responsible for timely documentation all client related material including Critical Incidents and Noteworthy Events, daily case notes, information from outside sources (appointments related to medical, emotional / mental health, etc.) and ensure that client and house records are up-to-date. Utilizes relationship building to teach and/or influence problem-solving, de-escalation / crisis response, preventative and/or planned interventions. Day-to-day service delivery components including, but not limited to, medication administration, scheduling of appointments for clients, transportation, facilitating / coordinating family involvement, etc. Home operation activities related to environmental safety, cleanliness and preparation of meals according to the Canada Food Guide, the client's preferences in consideration of any medical, dietary and cultural parameters. Other tasks as required to facilitate client care and home operations including attendance at team meetings, training, etc.

Educational Requirement



Degree or Diploma in Human Services field with at least one-year related experience in working with children and youth; preference will be given to those with experience in working with complex needs or "at risk" children and youth . An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Certificate(s) requirement



A Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search (condition of employment) Child Intervention Check (condition of employment) Must be registered with the relevant professional organization as governed by the Health Professions Act. Must have current CPR and First Aid certification.

Experience requirement



One (1) year previous experience with children and youth and/or in a related field; preference will be given to those with experience in working with complex needs or "at risk" children and youth. Knowledge and experience in working with a Trauma Informed and Client-Centred approach. Demonstrated understanding of diversity and supporting equality of opportunities. Strong knowledge of external, supportive and community services and systems available to clients. Effective crisis management skills. Strong critical thinking skills in complex situations that align with policies and legislation. Excellent communication (oral and written), presentation, organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills. Responds well to challenges. Able to plan, organize and prioritize responsibilities to meet deadlines. Can effectively manage multiple tasks and varying workloads. Positive attitude, good listener and problem solver. Must be discreet and maintain confidentiality to safeguard the security of clients and others. Ability to work together in a team setting by being positive, professional and approachable. The ability to maintain professional boundaries with clients, employees and families.

Pay: $20.00-$24.00 per hour
