Your Opportunity:The Alberta Children\'s Hospital (ACH) is a warm & vibrant workplace, with team members providing service to children & their families in inpatient units & ambulatory clinics. As part of the Therapeutic Arts Program, the Art Therapist will provide clinical art therapy assessment and treatment utilizing a variety of arts-based intervention approaches. As part of the site wide Therapeutic Arts program, the art therapist will focus on the psychosocial needs of children/youth on inpatient units and outpatient clinic settings. Critical thinking skills and advanced knowledge of art therapy/medical art are required. The art therapist will function in a family centred care approach and in the accordance with the professional standards of practice of the Canadian Art Therapy Association. This position will support the continued development, implementation and evaluation of the art therapy component of the Therapeutic Arts program at Alberta Children\'s Hospital.Description:As a Child Life Specialist, you will plan, develop, implement, coordinate and evaluate developmental and normalization activities including therapeutic play programs in order to further the social, emotional, intellectual and physical growth of children and adolescents. You will assess, research, plan, implement and evaluate appropriate play and developmental activities/interventions for children and families (both individual and in group settings). You will provide therapeutic play programs designed to reduce stress, help clients cope with hospitalization, promote development and independence. You will help prepare children for diagnostic, medical and surgical procedures through hospital play, demonstrations and discussions and introduce coping strategies and techniques to assist children and families during procedures. You will also provide diversion experiences and facilitate special events.

Required Qualifications:Completion of bachelor\'s degree in Child Life, Education, Psychology or other related field. Additional Required Qualifications:Master\'s Degree in Art Therapy, or a graduate level degree in Art Therapy from a program approved by the Canadian Art Therapy Association (CATA). Minimum of two years clinical experience working with children and adolescents in a tertiary care setting. Experience facilitating groups is preferred. Professional Member (in good standing) of the Canadian Art Therapy Association (CATA). Preferred Qualifications:Connect Care trained.
