Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Position Overview

Working as a part of the Child Life Department, under the supervision of the Manager the Child Life Assistant performs a variety of supportive Child Life functions for the care and comfort of patients and families.

Experience

  • Previous experience working with children in a healthcare setting required.
  • Child Life experience preferred.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Complete high school education, Manitoba standards, required.
  • Early Childhood Educator Certificate or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience as recognized by the Centre.
SPECIAL TRAINING:
  • The Child Life Assistant is responsible for acquiring appropriate knowledge of medical terms specific to their programming.
Certification/Licensure/Registration

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with applicable policy.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Competence in the areas of growth and development, play and family dynamics.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Basic Video/Audio skills preferred.
  • Must have a basic understanding of the effects of hospitalization on children and families.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must adhere to the principles of family-centered care.
  • Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions and values.
Physical Requirements
  • Good physical and mental health.
  • Must be able to complete repetitive lifting, bending and twisting; must be able to work with children from infants to teens.
