JOB SUMMARY

Perform general duty cooking at the Day Care Centres maintaining high standards of quality food preparation, which meets the nutritional needs of the children as per the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014 and Canada Food Guide. Maintains the health standards of the Centre as set out by the Medical Officer of Health.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION
---------

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience; plus Additional courses in cooking or nutrition preferred. Must possess Safe Good Handling Certificate.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
--------------------

Minimum of 6 months to 1 year of experience in food preparation in direct, institutional environment.
SKILLS
------

Must possess knowledge of kitchen operating procedures and food handling, storage and safekeeping. Must be able to adjust menus as required. Must be aware of safety and fire regulations. Must possess a clear understanding of the Canada Food Guide.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
------------------

In accordance with the Corporate Criminal Record Check Policy, the position requires the incumbent to undergo a Criminal Records Check and submit a Canadian Vulnerable Sector Police Clearance Certificate. Must maintain ability to travel in a timely manner to other offices, work locations or sites as authorized by the Corporation for business reasons. Must meet and maintain requirements in the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014; health assessment and proof of current records of immunizations as recommended by the Medical Officer of Health.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepare menus that meet nutritional needs of the children giving consideration to children's special dietary needs. Maintain necessary standard of cleanliness in the kitchen and storeroom areas including cupboards, ovens, defrosting freezers, wiping spills, etc. Responsible for the proper storage and use of foods. Order and maintain food and kitchen supplies as needed, maintains inventory records. Wash, dry, and store kitchen utensils and dishes after meals and snacks. Change or adapt menu if supplies are not present and record changes. Receive order, check, sign, and date all invoices and store supplies. Prepare and clean dining areas. Prepare baking for special events such as Christmas and Thanksgiving. Answer telephone; assist with children and laundry when necessary. * Participate in training based on individual needs and program requirements.
