The Opportunity

We are currently looking for a Part - time Child Care Aid at our McKnight Location
Hours of Work: Wednesday (8:30 am to 11:30 am), Thursday (11:30 am to 3:00 pm) and Friday (12:30 pm- 3:00 pm) . (Schedule is subject to change)
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities
  • Assists in providing daycare support and student self-care (dressing, toileting/diapering etc.)
  • Participates in providing one-on-one support in the classroom while promoting a safe, calm and positive learning environment
  • Observe and record all behaviors, write incident reports when needed
  • Manage inappropriate behavior, including implementation of physical restraint techniques when required and approved by Fueling Brains Academy guidelines
  • Prepare classroom material, when it falls outside of the classroom curriculum
  • Demonstrates initiative and independence in the management of class time and routines
  • Performs physically demanding tasks to meet the unique and personal needs of the child

What You Bring (Preferred Skills and Qualifications)
  • Understand and support high behavioral needs in a classroom setting and can work collaboratively with classroom teachers and other assistants
  • EA certification or ECE level 1 or Child and Youth Care Worker Diploma or a Diploma in a related field of study or Education Assistant Certificate with demonstrated knowledge, skills, and training in behavior disabilities
  • High School Diploma and 3 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience working with behavior disabilities students
  • Minimum 1 year experience working with children with developmental delays and/or high behavioral needs (e.g., Autism, ADHD, ODD)
  • Some knowledge of developmental delays and disorders (preference)
  • Successful completion of training in nonviolent crisis intervention (asset)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with team members, can take constructive criticism and learn to adapt or modify current techniques where needed to adequately support the child and classrooms need.
  • Current First Aid Certificate (may be obtained upon hire).
  • Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check, within the past 6 months.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, exhibiting a supportive and positive approach.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, time management, problem-solving, and leadership abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, and colleagues.
  • Ability to lift up to 40lbs., especially when working with infants and toddlers.
