A Child and Youth Worker is dedicated to maintaining and promoting the well-being, safety, and independence of each child/youth. This may include providing physical care, one-on-one support and supervision, meal preparation, medication administration, and documentation. They encourage children and youth to foster independence and develop individual skills, talents, and abilities while maintaining health & safety requirements. Responsibilities:
Ensure a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for clients and provide individualized support to children/youth to function more independently in CYH homes and communities.
Collect daily behavioural data relevant to the client's specific programs and goals.
Accompany and/or transport clients to various appointments and activities within the community such as medical appointments, school, employment, or community leisure activities and outings.
Provide one-on-one support to clients with daily life skills, social skills, and /or behaviour management.
Support and assist clients with daily activities such as personal care and hygiene, meal preparation and nutrition, household chores and laundry, budgeting and money management, community navigation, goal setting, safety skills, etc.
Ensure the safety of all clients in the residence, which may include crisis management and physical containment (if necessary, as a last resort).
Promote opportunities for each client to enjoy cultural connectedness and provide an environment that is culturally safe to ensure the client's intersecting identity needs are being met.
Assist the client in understanding their rights and responsibilities within CYH homes.
Promote behavioural change and personal growth of clients who are having difficulties coping because of social, emotional, physical, or cognitive delays.
Implement client-specific goals and treatment plans in alignment with the client's POC/ISP/BSP; teaching based on principles of ABA and other evidence-based practices.
Address the physical, emotional, and medical needs of clients in service, including administering medication to children/youth when needed.
Implement physical, recreational, educational, social, and vocational activities at the assigned location.
Complete and maintain accurate and timely documentation, record keeping, report writing, communication logs, and abide by all documentation procedures and protocols.
Able to problem-solve in crisis situations within the service principles of Chrysalis Youth Homes Inc.
Ensure strict adherence to MCSS and CYFSA legislation, OACYC Code of Ethics, and any relevant health and safety standards under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Ensure strict adherence to all CYH policies and procedures.
Represent Chrysalis Youth Homes Inc. in a positive and professional manner at all times.
Providing a safe and clean environment including but not limited to daily household duties needed for the daily upkeep and maintenance of the home.
Must be able to lift a minimum of 5 lbs.
Other duties may be assigned as required.
Qualifications:
Post-secondary education/community college or university degree at an Ontario-recognized institution in a relevant discipline (CYW, DSW, SSW)or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
A minimum of one year experience in working with children and youth with mental health exceptionalities and behavioural challenges in the child welfare industry.
Ability to use discretion and sound judgement in a fast-paced residential treatment setting
Critical thinking skills and sound crisis management kills
Ability to relate and communicate with children/youth effectively and to adapt to accommodate developmental needs.
Ability to demonstrate self-initiative and work independently following an individualized plan (ISP, BSP)
Applicants must be physically able to carry out physical interventions/containments when required
Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office suite and experience with an electronic client records management system.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Valid certification in UMAB, First-Aid and CPR
Valid "G" Class Driver's License, access to a reliable vehicle, and valid insurance are required; to attend client appointments, events, and community activities.
Vulnerable Sector Background Check cleared within the last 6 months.
Covid-19 vaccination requirements as determined by Chrysalis Youth Homes' community partners
Experience in data collection; knowledge of ABA is an asset
Knowledge of the requirements under QAM and CYFSA is an asset
