children and youth with autism
in a residential setting. Your primary focus will be on creating a safe, structured, and nurturing environment that respects each individual's strengths, promotes emotional well-being, and supports positive growth and independence.
Responsibilities
Provide daily care, supervision, and guidance to children and youth with autism in a residential facility.
Support communication, social skills, and daily living skills through individualized strategies.
Foster a supportive, inclusive, and sensory-aware environment that encourages personal development and self-expression.
Implement and follow individualized care plans, adapting approaches to meet each youth's unique needs, goals, and abilities.
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team (families, educators, therapists, and other professionals) to provide consistent, autism-informed care.
Facilitate structured recreational, educational, and therapeutic activities tailored to the interests and abilities of each youth.
Maintain accurate documentation of progress, achievements, and challenges.
Respond effectively to crisis or challenging behaviours using de-escalation techniques, proactive supports, and positive behaviour strategies.
Qualifications
Minimum high school diploma or relevant experience supporting children/youth with autism or other developmental differences.
Knowledge of autism spectrum disorder, child and youth development, and trauma-informed practices.
Strong communication skills, including patience and adaptability when supporting different communication styles (verbal, nonverbal, AAC, etc.).
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Requirements
MCFD Criminal Record Check
Valid driver's license (or willingness to obtain)
First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)
Tuberculosis Test (or willingness to obtain)
Physician's letter verifying ability to work in this field (form provided)
Mandt training (or willingness to obtain)
Food Safe Training (or willingness to obtain)
Naloxone Training (or willingness to obtain)
Schedule
8-hour shifts
Day, evening, and night shifts available
On-call and weekends as needed
