CHILD AND

YOUTH WORKER

The

Child and Youth Worker will be responsible for the delivery of social-emotional

and behavioural programs to support educational programs under the direction of

the Mental Health Team. The successful candidate will assist the team in the

development of programs and activities for individual needs, specifically,

alternative programming for social skills and self regulation that is outlined

in the Individual Education Plan (IEP). CYWs will also provide supportive

counselling and group interventions to assist students, liaise between home,

school and social service agencies, and support safety plans.

CYWs will provide support for two elementary schools with regularly scheduled

times at each of their respective schools. CYWs will respond to school-based

requests and support students focusing on socio-emotional learning through

groups (Friends, CBT, Roots of Empathy etc.), as well as providing one-on-one

support under the clinical supervision of an area Social Worker. Itinerant CYWs

will also support and implement universal and targeted strategies and

initiatives within their schools and classrooms that promote student well-being

as it relates to learning. The nature of this position could also require the

successful candidate to service large geographical areas; mileage reimbursement

at the Board approved rate.

Itinerant - the successful candidate will be assigned to a pair of schools and will alternate days at each school. Staff may also be expected to drive to assigned locations within Simcoe County.

Salary Range: $23.20 - $27.62 per hour

Qualifications:
Required: Three year college diploma: Child and Youth

Worker, or equivalent three year college diploma / university degree with a

focus on child and youth studies. Experience with behaviour management

techniques and strategies and the implementation of behaviour plans. Knowledge

of mental health, cultural and social issues impacting youth. Excellent

communication, interpersonal, organizational skills, problem solving skills and

the ability to work independently and as a team member. Ability to adapt to

changing situations in the workplace. Ability to maintain confidential

information. Basic skills in various software applications, e.g. MS Office.

Preferred : Knowledge of Simcoe County

District School Board Policies, Administrative Procedures Memoranda and

Numbered Memoranda. Knowledge of community and social service agencies. Knowledge

of social emotional skill development strategies. Knowledge of drug and alcohol intervention

strategies. Previous counselling experience, particularly Cognitive Behavioral

Therapy and Mindfulness approaches. Knowledge of board approved crisis

intervention programs, e.g. Behaviour Management Systems (BMS). First Aid and

CPR Certificate. Well developed mediation skills. Previous experience working

in an educational environment.

** This position works 6.5 hours during the school year. Locations

are subject to change to meet student needs. The duties, responsibilities and
