NATURE OF THE WORK
As the child and youth worker, you will be responsible for ensuring direct services, such as school groups, one on one counselling, parenting support, identification and response of needs, are offered to youth aged 6-21 years and their families. You will be part of the Family and Community team and multi-service Centre and liaise with the community as required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Assessing clients' needs in both French and English
Mobilizing and coordinating appropriate resources to respond to the needs of clients
Dealing with clients with complaints, cancellations or problems concerning different Child and Youth services and escalating as necessary
Respond to and take appropriate action for emergencies
Referring clients to the appropriate services within and outside of the Centre and play an advocacy role where appropriate
Participate in design and implementation of service delivery programs to meet the identified needs of clients
Provide information and advocacy on behalf of clients to ensure that the clients receive community services
Ensuring a coordination of resources and services are available to clients and their families
Establish and maintain regular contact with community partners and the community
Participate in team meetings and centre-wide activities
WHAT WE WOULD LIKE TO FIND IN YOU
BSW, university degree in another related discipline or diploma in social work with relevant experience.
A minimum of two years' experience in youth related programming
Experience in a social service setting
Knowledge of MS Office Applications, and experience working within a Client Information Management System.
Ability to work independently and take initiative
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team.
Excellent communication skills and strong independent skills
Demonstrated understanding of issues facing youth
Thorough knowledge and understanding of community resources
Ability to provide clients with a welcoming, compassionate, and safe environment
Fluency in oral and written communication skills in English and French.
French language skills are mandatory.
Organizational and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work flexible hours which may include evening and weekends.
Access to a vehicle and a valid driver's license.
