Position Overview:



We are seeking compassionate, patient, and motivated Child and Youth Support Workers to join our team. As an independent contractor, you will provide individualized support to children and youth in respite and residential settings. You will help each young person develop positive coping strategies, build life skills, and achieve personal goals, while maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment consistent with Stillwater's trauma-informed care philosophy.

Key Responsibilities:



Provide direct care, supervision, and emotional support to children and youth with diverse abilities and backgrounds. Support daily routines, including personal care, meals, recreational activities, and educational engagement, therapeutic activities, hand leisure pursuits. Implement individualized support and behavioural plans that promote growth, stability, and independence. Foster positive relationships and model appropriate social and coping skills. Respond effectively to crisis situations using de-escalation and trauma-informed approaches. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of progress notes, incidents, and program activities. Utilize verbal de-escalation strategies and follow agency safety protocols to manage behavioral challenges and urgent situations. Teach practical life skills, personal care, meal preparation, budgeting, and community navigation tailored to each child's developmental level. Communicate and collaborate with families, social workers, educators, and multidisciplinary team members. Participate in staff meetings, ongoing training, and reflective supervision sessions. Ensure compliance with agency policies, safety standards, and confidentiality requirements.

Qualifications & Skills:



Diploma or degree in Child and Youth Care, Social Services, Developmental Service Work, Psychology, or a related field (or equivalent experience). 3 - 5 years experience supporting children and youth with developmental disabilities, mental health challenges, trauma backgrounds or complex behaviours. Understanding of trauma-informed care, person-centered planning, and positive behaviour supports. Supporting youth with autism: 5 years (required) Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in challenging situations. Valid First Aid/CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) or equivalent training (or willingness to obtain). Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening. / Police Broad Check Valid driver's licence and access to reliable transportation (asset).

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Fixed term contract, Casual

Pay: $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 - 40 per week
