Job Summary:
We are seeking an energetic, motivated, compassionate, and trauma-informed Child & Youth Counsellor for our PEACE (The Prevention, Education, Advocacy, Counselling and Empowerment) program. This program serves children and youth (aged 3-18) who have witnessed abuse or violence.
The counsellor will provide one-to-one and group counselling, education and advocacy for children and youth as well as support and provide psychoeducation to parents and caregivers. This role also involves engaging with the community to promote awareness on the impact of violence on children, through both educational outreach and collaboration with local service providers as part of broader prevention efforts.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Demonstrated understanding of the effects of witnessing violence and the ability to provide support to children and their families through a trauma-informed and feminist lens.
Effective record keeping and case management skills to ensure services are effectively in alignment with the program's scope and funder mandate, including completing intakes, assessments, and referrals, and collaborating with relevant service providers.
Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, clinical, and group facilitation skills.
Knowledge of and familiarity with community-based allied health professionals, with the ability to refer clients to appropriate services when needed.
Strong capacity to conduct risk assessments, implement safety planning, and provide harm reduction resources.
Demonstration of ethical responsibilities and legal duties to report concerns related to child protection and safety.
The ability to work effectively under pressure, including managing stressful situations and supporting clients who have experienced or witnessed violence.
Comfortable working independently as well as being an integral member of the PEACE counselling team and BFL agency.
Education, Training, Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Counselling, Psychology or a related field
Three or more years of recent related experience (or equivalent combination of education) working in community-based services providing individual and group services to children, families and caregivers.
Minimum of two years' experience working with children and families, including providing one-on-one and group counselling to children.
Registration with a professional counselling body (BCACC, CCPA, etc.) is an asset
Additional Requirements:
Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check including work with vulnerable persons.
A flexible work schedule/week is required.
