The Child and Youth Worker plays a vital role in supporting and guiding young individuals, particularly those with disabilities or special needs. This position involves providing compassionate care and assistance, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for youth to thrive. The Senior Youth Worker will collaborate with families, educators, and other professionals to facilitate personal development and promote independence among the youth.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct care and support in the home and community, including assistance with daily living activities and personal care.
Implement individualized care plans tailored to the child's specific needs and goals.
Support communication through visuals, AAC devices, PECS, and other tools.
Foster a supportive environment that encourages social interaction, skill development, and independence.
Collaborate with parents and professionals to ensure consistent approaches and progress toward goals.
Engage in case management activities, coordinating services and resources for families as needed.
Maintain accurate records of care provided, progress achieved, and any incidents.
Participate in ongoing training to enhance skills and stay current with best practices.
Assist with lifting or physical support as required to ensure the child's safety and comfort.
Qualifications and Experience
A diploma/degree in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Education Assistant, or a related field (or equivalent experience) is an asset.
Previous experience supporting children with autism or developmental disabilities.
Knowledge of communication supports (visuals, AAC, PECS, etc.) is an asset.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to remain calm, patient, and flexible in challenging situations.
Physical ability to assist with lifting and other supportive tasks as needed.
Current First Aid/CPR certification and a Vulnerable Sector Police Check (required).
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation (preferred).
