Position Summary - Child & Youth Care Worker



The Child & Youth Care Worker plays an essential role in supporting children and youth while their parents participate in daytime programming. This position focuses on creating a safe, structured, and nurturing environment where children can learn, regulate, and grow. The ideal candidate is patient, creative, trauma-informed, and skilled in engaging children through meaningful activities that promote emotional regulation, cultural connection, life skills, and overall well-being.

This role involves planning and facilitating developmentally appropriate activities, supporting routines, assisting with emotional and behavioural challenges, and providing consistent, compassionate guidance. The Child & Youth Care Worker collaborates closely with parents, staff, Elders, and the wider WOLFE team to ensure children's needs are met in a holistic, culturally grounded way.

Key Responsibilities



Provide daytime supervision, support, and guidance to children while parents attend programming to children under the age of 5 years old Maintain a safe, structured, and culturally grounded environment Plan and facilitate activities that promote emotional regulation, coping skills, creativity, and cultural learning Support children in developing life skills, healthy routines, communication, and problem-solving Use trauma-informed, strength-based approaches to respond to behavioural or emotional challenges Build positive, trusting relationships with children and families Assist with transitions, daily routines, and age-appropriate expectations Collaborate with the WOLFE team, including Elders and cultural practitioners, to incorporate cultural teachings into activities Identify and respond to safety concerns or escalations using appropriate de-escalation strategies Document observations, concerns, and progress as required Communicate effectively with staff and parents regarding children's participation and needs Uphold WOLFE's values of respect, community, culture, and holistic family wellness Perform other duties as assigned to support children's well-being and programming flow

Qualifications



Diploma or degree in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field Experience working with children in a trauma-informed, relational, or residential setting Ability to obtain and maintain a Police Information Check (Vulnerable Sector) and Intervention Record Check First Aid & CPR Level C (or willingness to obtain) Understanding of trauma, attachment, emotional regulation, and child development Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, traditions, protocols, and community healing practices is an asset Strong communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
