Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Child and Youth Care Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for children in our care. This role requires a strong commitment to patient care and the ability to manage various childcare responsibilities effectively. The Child and Youth Care Specialist will work closely with support staff to ensure the well-being and development of each child.

Responsibilities

Supervise and monitor the safety of children in your care at all times. Plan and implement age-appropriate activities that promote physical, emotional, and social development. Assist children with daily tasks such as eating, dressing, and personal hygiene. Maintain a clean and organized environment, ensuring all play areas are safe and welcoming. Communicate effectively with staff regarding the child's progress and any concerns that may arise. Provide support for children with special needs or disabilities as required. Document daily activities, behaviors, and any incidents that occur during care.

Skills

Strong patient care skills, demonstrating empathy and understanding towards children's needs. Ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary (e.g., lifting young children or assisting with mobility). Familiarity with case management practices to effectively coordinate care for children with specific needs. Knowledge of cultural differences and requirements for a healing journey. Understanding of medical terminology is advantageous for communicating effectively about health-related issues. Successful candidates will have a class 5 license and a clean 3-5 years drivers abstract as you will be required to transport children to medical appointments and recreational activities. Successful candidates will have a criminal records check including a vulnerable sector check as well as a child intervention records check dated within 6 months of hire.
