Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation (TFN) is a self-governing First Nation, a band within the meaning of the


Indian Act. TFN is beginning to explore the process of exercising its rightful legislative and


constitutional authority over child and family services (CFS), pursuant to •An Act respecting First•

•Nations, Inuit and Metis children, youth and families, S.C. 2019, c. 24• (the "Act").


TFN is seeking a CFS Program Coordinator to lead this important phase of the process. This


specialized position requires an in-depth understanding of the Provincial and Federal child and


family services systems, with a particular focus on addressing the existing gaps in services for Tla-


o-qui-aht members. The role will evolve as the Nation's capacity grows, providing an exciting


opportunity to work with a supportive team while advocating for the best interests of children,


youth, and families. The position will report directly to Chief and Council.


Responsibilities

The CFS Program Coordinator will:


? Collaborate with the Manager for the exploration of exercising jurisdiction over child and


family services at the community level, including capacity building.


? Supervise the current family in crisis team and provide overview and support.


? Work one on one with families assigned


? Conduct community engagement sessions to assess needs and foster understanding of child


and family services.


? Support the creation and development of programs.


? Implement and maintain strong relationships with existing CFS providers to ensure


collaboration and integration of services.


? Collaborate with external partners on data-sharing agreements and service planning.


? Prepare materials for funding applications and ensure reporting requirements are met.


? Assist with administrative tasks related to funding and program management.


Knowledge and Experience

? The ideal candidate will have:


? A bachelor's degree in social work (BSW)


? 2-5 years of experience in Social Work, working with child and family services.

? A strong understanding of •An Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Metis children, youth•

•and families, S.C. 2019, c. 24• and related legislation (e.g., Jordan's Principle, UNDRIP).


? Familiarity with the •British Columbia Child, Family and Community Service Act•.


? Proficiency in data management, record keeping, and program reporting.


? Respect for Indigenous culture, history, and issues, with a willingness to learn and adapt.


? A strong commitment to maintaining confidentiality.


Additional assets:


? Knowledge of the Nuu-chah-nulth language.


? Knowledge of Tla-o-qui-aht traditional practices


? Experience working within the Canadian child welfare system.


? Direct experience working within First Nations communities.
