This Opportunity

Our Toronto location is seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to succeed our current CFO who will be retiring. The successful candidate will exemplify an entrepreneurial spirt with demonstrated exceptional analytical, strategic planning/thinking and communication skills. The CFO will report to the senior management team based out of Toronto and will work closely with the senior leadership team across the organization and directors of the national shared services teams.

The CFO is responsible the oversight of the firm\xe2\x80\x99s financial systems includes financial reporting, projections and as well as managing the overall financial risks of the firm. The successful candidate will be a seasoned strategist with demonstrated knowledge and experience implementing key accounting
practices and controls.

What You\xe2\x80\x99ll Do

  • Provide strategic management and oversight of the accounting and finance function and systems including but not limited to: overseeing the application of appropriate accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls for accurate financial reporting and financial systems implementations, maintenance, and upgrades.
  • Prepare, analyze and monitor financial forecasts and budgets and make strategic recommendations to senior executive team.
  • Assess and evaluate company financial performance with regard to long-term operational goals. Recommend improvements to ensure the integrity of national and regional financial information/success.
  • Prepare and present monthly/quarterly financial reports including P/L, cash flow, accounts receivable and other metrics.
  • Oversee billing and accounts receivable, providing guidance relating to the collection process. Manage accounts payables to ensure cash flow is appropriate and sustainable.
  • Manage or oversee the relationship with independent accountants including the annual year-end accounting process. Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors; manage preparation and support of all year-end reporting.
  • Oversee the department\xe2\x80\x99s hiring, team development, performance management and mentoring.
  • Manage relationships with banking and investment institutions. Oversee cash, investments, and asset management and assist in determining timing and amounts for partnership distributions.
  • Develop financial metrics and dashboards to provide financial information to leaders across the country.
  • Manage and retain relationships with various vendors and clients. Select and engage consultants, auditors, and other key vendors necessary to carry out responsibilities.
  • Oversee the preparation and timely delivery of any regulated filings such as provincial and federal taxes.
  • Manage and oversee the Employee Share Ownership Plan (ESOP).
  • Identify and manage business risks and insurance requirements working closely with in-house counsel.

Who You Are:
  • Minimum of 8 to 12 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in accounting or finance including a minimum of five years in a management role. Candidates should have held positions of increasing responsibility within an accounting department such as Director of Finance, Director of Accounting, or Controller.
  • Must be a Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) in good standing.
  • Strong knowledge in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software and accounting systems.
  • Understanding of advanced accounting, regulatory issues, and tax planning.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills; able to communicate and sell concepts.
  • Strong leadership skills to motivate and direct a team.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking skills.
  • High level of integrity and attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.

Nice to Have:
  • Previous experience with implementing or using Deltek Vantagepoint software.
  • A master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in business administration (MBA), accounting, or finance.
  • Previous accounting leadership experience in an architectural, engineering or construction industry.
