PRIMARY EMPLOYMENT OBJECTIVES

Galvion is seeking a seasoned expert - a strategic business partner for the executive team who will define and implement financial strategies for Galvion\'s portfolio of businesses. The successful candidate, a decisive, results-driven, hands-on business executive, will thrive on implementing systematic and disciplined approaches to business management.

This CFO position requires a leader who is well versed in finance, as well as overall business operations, preferably in a Aerospace & Defense (A&D) design and manufacturing environment. The CFO must be equally comfortable communicating to line staff, senior management, the Board of Directors as well as external financial partners and resources such as banks and auditors with the ability to present the Company\'s overall financial position as well as business unit margins, cash flow, profitability etc.

The selected candidate will have experience dealing with government customers, while understanding both manufacturing and innovative technology development contracts. They will bring a maturity and \xe2\x80\x9cdata driven\xe2\x80\x9d mindset to business decision making, and will help re-shape the culture towards greater employee empowerment, and related accountability.

This is the opportunity to bring your experience to overseeing all financial operations of the company; providing leadership, motivation, and direction in all areas of finance, tax and accounting, including playing an active and critical role in financial planning & analysis activity, raising debt and/or equity capital, and participating in strategy setting and M&A, as the company may require in order to achieve its short and long term objectives.

Responsibilities will include traditional CFO activities: leading balance sheet, treasury and expense management, leading Galvion\'s budgeting and forecasting processes, overseeing operational and financial reporting through best-in-class cost accounting practices, refining IT and business systems, negotiating and implementing internal financial procedures and controls, and tax planning. Significant importance is placed on managing in a high growth, dynamic business environment by driving a strategic approach to working capital management, business & operational efficiencies, and strategic investments.

LOCATION

This position will be based in Montreal, and will require frequent travel to the U.S. facilities in Newport, VT; Marlborough, MA; and Portsmouth, NH. This will be a hybrid role, working closely with the Accounting team in the Montreal office as well as the plant controllers in the U.S.

SPECIFIC ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

People:

  • Builds, leads and mentors a highly efficient and effective finance team.
  • Ensures clear definition of responsibility for each employee and conducts department staff performance reviews.
  • Maintains strong service orientation with open and effective two-way communication throughout the Company.
  • Ensures an open flow of information to the senior management team providing the timely and accurate financial, management and business trend analysis necessary for effective, proactive decision-making.
  • Instills investor confidence in the Company around solid corporate governance.
  • Develops and enhances communication with financial stakeholders.
Process:
  • Instills a spirit of continuous improvement within the finance department.
  • Updates and upgrades existing financial systems and processes, analyzing the tools and systems being used.
  • Oversees the preparation and release of annual, quarterly and monthly financial reports to both the internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monitors consistent application of accounting policies, taking into consideration jurisdiction requirements and the establishment and maintenance of appropriate internal checks and controls to ensure the accuracy of information and the existence of appropriate safeguards to protect the Company\'s assets.
  • Ongoing involvement in policy setting around ITAR, Controlled Goods and other compliance matters.
  • Oversees compliance and proper execution of all government procurement requirements (FAR, DFAR, Government Cost Accounting Standards in the US, Code of Conduct for Procurement in Canada, DEFCON in the UK).
  • Develops and implements broad financial policies, allocations and long-range plans to support the overall growth objectives and philosophy of the company.
  • Develops creative and effective financing strategies to support acquisitions, expansion and capital requirements.
  • Establishes and maintains productive banking, investor and lending relationships on behalf of the organization along with the CEO.
  • Ensures the preparation of the annual operating and capital budgets that reflect the objectives, plans and priorities established in the strategic plan.
  • Ensures corporate activities proceed according to authorized financial plans. And budgets.
  • Maintains treasury management procedures that optimize cash management effectiveness.
  • Develops, implements and maintains funding and complex tax planning strategies.
  • Leads all activities related to tax planning, audit, insurance and banking.
  • Assists in developing and implementing strategic plans and annual operating plans.
  • Designs and implements ROI analysis for all major company programs and projects, including new business units, facilities and technologies.
  • Identifies key strategic issues as they arise from a financial standpoint.
Performance:
  • Ensures that the financial statements fairly and accurately present the financial position of the Company, its business units and the results of its operations.
  • Reviews and continuously improves key business indicators.
  • Maintains the company in a leading-edge position with respect to good financial reporting practices.
  • Drives costs out of the system and increases efficiency along with the CEO and BU heads.
  • Keeps up-to-date with the overall business activities of the organization, analyzing a broad range of management and operational information and identifying priority issues to be addressed and initiatives to be undertaken.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Undergraduate degree, ideally in Business/Commerce and a professional accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA) and/or MBA.
  • Hands-on, demonstrable experience in multiple-site, high-tech, high complexity, design & manufacturing enterprises, both large and small. International experience a plus.
  • A diverse set of experiences preferred, with time spent in two or more of the following functional areas: Operations, business unit management, program management, corporate development or general management.
  • 15+ years of experience leading the financial function of a high-growth organization.
  • Experience with cost accounting in a high tech manufacturing environment is a must.
  • Extensive experience overseeing efficient accounting, reporting, forecasting and budgeting processes in a growth environment, preferably in industries with much government involvement/oversight (including regulation, and compliance heavy, multi-year programs).
  • Track record of effectively developing, managing, and mentoring a talented financial team in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing new processes and systems, and optimizing ERP use.
  • Must be very comfortable operating in an ever-changing environment, such that 80% solutions today are preferred and acted upon, rather than waiting for the 99% solution in 6 months.
  • Demonstrated business acumen with a solid reputation as a key contributor to operational excellence.
  • Superior professional management skills including leadership, organization, documentation, training, and financial management.
  • A highly motivated leader: one who creates an atmosphere in which people work together enthusiastically and effectively in producing superior results.
  • Hands-on experience in creating and negotiating agreements with strategic partners, suppliers, customers, and capital market professionals.
  • Highest levels of personal integrity and honesty.
  • Superior intellect; a combination of mental flexibility, creativity, and judgment. An analytical and effective problem-solver with a strong strategic orientation.
  • Social and engaging person who has the personality to fit in with a hard driving and dynamic senior management team. A good sense of humor is a must.
