Job Description

PURPOSE:



The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) provides financial oversight and guidance for the accounting and financial affairs of the organization ensuring the basic financial control mechanisms are in place. The incumbent encompasses strong people leadership abilities; is able to motivate and inspire, capable of driving performance while playing a supportive mentoring/coaching role.

RESPONSIBILITIES:



Lead and manage the Finance and Accounting team, promoting a culture of high performance and continuous improvement. Ensure employees are properly informed of their respective roles in the business and performance expectations within a team environment. Plan, set-up and administer accounting and financial systems and maintain full and accurate accounting records Oversee the daily operations of the finance and accounting functions and service providers Provide financial and accounting advice, direction and leadership for all financial transactions Prepare financial information analysis for individuals, departments and companies, as requested and within company guidelines for release of information Examine accounting records, develop and maintain cost findings Provide timely and complete performance reviews for accounting staff; identify skill or knowledge gaps in employee skill sets (e.g. management, supervisory, sales, administration, etc.) and determine the best form of training to achieve optimal results to capitalize on employee's talents. Assist the Vice President of Finance and divisional managers with the performance evaluation of accounting staff throughout the organization Ensure group members have the appropriate internal controls in place to protect assets, recognize liabilities and the recording of operating revenues and expenditures Review preparation of daily, monthly and quarterly internal financials. Work with group members to improve the preparation of timely and accurate information. Chart program of operating results with pre-set budgets and forecasts. Assist divisional managers with improving reporting of operational activities including job profitability, job costing, financial ratios (inventory levels, receivable levels, gross margin, etc.) in accordance with industry guidelines; with the review of job/product pricing to ensure competitiveness; to ensure the appropriate credit collection policies are in place and in use Investigate new initiatives for improved operational processing including electric fund transfers and full use of accounting software Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure that financial information is securely stored and in compliance with current legislation Manage the payroll system to ensure all employees are paid on a timely and accurate basis Coordinate the preparation of year-end financial statements for all companies in the organization Coordinate relations with external accountants to ensure maximum benefit with minimal cost with timely turnaround Ensure all assets and related operating risks are adequately protected through insurance coverage Provide the CEO with tax planning and research including corporate tax and HST Assist with the Corporate Controller's role of cash management (including the collection of outstanding receivables, management of payables and supplier relations) Create annual business plans using work plans, budgets (operating and capital) and forecasts Assist divisional managers with applications for government assistance for both capital and operating initiatives Prepare, as required, financing packages including projected financial statements and monthly cash flows Maintain strong working relationships with banking and surety providers including the timely response to requests for information Assist Human Resources with the development of a financial incentive program for the accounting team, as requested Assist the CEO, President and Senior Management to develop relationships with community-based groups to promote APM's role as a community-based organization Assist the CEO, President and Senior Management to provide strategic direction for future growth Provide timely and concise reporting to the CEO and senior management on all activities

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:



Ensure a strong corporate culture exists that results in a highly trained, motivated, committed and effective team Ensure accurate daily, monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial information is prepared on a timely basis according to a pre-set schedule Determine innovative methods to reduce corporate income taxes and HST Improved organizational profitability as a result of increased revenues, decreased expenses and a general improvement in operational efficiency due to improved management of financial reporting and internal controls Ensuring company assets are effectively and efficiently protected through insurance coverage Timely and organized management of all duties outlined

QUALIFICATIONS:



Professional accounting designation (CPA (CA, CMA, CGA)) or similar combination of experience and education. 10+ years' progressive finance leadership experience (at least 5 years in a strategic senior level role) 5+ years' experience leading and managing a team Demonstrated ability to set up procedures to minimize errors Strong attention to detail and accuracy in work Must be a skilled communicator with well-developed verbal, written and presentation skills Excellent problem solving and analytical skills Strong technical understanding of accounting, financing and financial reporting JONAS software experience an asset Extensive experience with all Windows platforms, Microsoft Office, Internet, etc.

COMPENSATION:



Salary $150,000-$165,00 per annum based on experience and qualifications Competitive benefit package including group insurance, pension, enhanced vacation
