About the Role
Reporting directly to the Town Council, the CAO serves as the primary advisor and administrative support to the Mayor and Council.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct administrative staff in the recording, filing, and management of municipal records.
Draft, prepare, and respond to correspondence on behalf of Council and management.
Prepare and present the annual municipal budget in collaboration with the Town Clerk.
Manage budgets and control expenses, including preparation of monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reports for Council.
Prepare and maintain Municipal Capital Works applications and all other funding submissions; complete reports as required by auditors or government agencies.
Attend Occupational Health and Safety meetings and comply with all OHS policies and regulations.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Manual dexterity required for computer use.
Occasional overtime and extended hours as necessary.
Occasional lifting of materials up to 20 lbs.
Tight deadlines and frequent interruptions.
Standard workweek is 36 hours, with some evening and weekend work required.
Prolonged periods of sitting and computer use.
Some travel may be required.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIRED
Completion of a 2-year post-secondary degree or business administration diploma or experience in the required field.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a computerized accounting and payroll environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Experience working in a municipal government.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and deliver results within established timelines.
Proven ability to handle confidential information and manage high workloads while meeting deadlines.
Exceptional attention to detail and mathematical accuracy.
Strong work ethic with a positive, team-oriented attitude.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Valid Class 5 Newfoundland and Labrador Driver's Licence.
Submission of a Certificate of Conduct, including an RCMP Criminal Record Check and Provincial Court Check, is required prior to employment.
Experience providing excellent customer service to the public.
