Dream is looking for a Chief Accounting Officer who will play a key leadership role within the Corporate Accounting team and across the company's diverse business operations.

What will you do?





Supporting Dream's ongoing growth strategy and commitment to community and shareholder value, the Chief Accounting Officer will be an experienced, hands-on leader and business partner who drives operational efficiencies while maintaining the necessary financial structure and controls. You will lead the further enhancement of processes to consolidate and report on financials and performance from a variety of business units and geographies and will provide critical leadership to a talented accounting and reporting team, fostering a culture of service and continuous improvement, and enabling opportunities for individual and collective growth.


Below are some of the primary responsibilities you will be taking on in this role:




Oversee and direct every aspect of the corporate accounting function for the company, including timely and accurate analysis of financial results, cash flows and operating metrics, external audit and tax compliance process, and management reporting. Act as a business partner with various stakeholders including senior management, technology, development, asset management, taxation and legal teams, fostering an environment of accountability and teamwork. Provide leadership to the corporate accounting team, but also to other controllers across the Dream group of companies. This includes working closely with other finance leads and our human resource team to ensure proper succession planning and talent retention strategies are implemented. A mentor and coach, evaluates accounting talent, builds a high performing accounting team at all levels, and develops staffing plans to support the business demands, as needed. Identifies and develops high potential employees, giving them career-broadening opportunities. As required, set up appropriate accounting policies; research, interpret, document and implement accounting guidance on accounting issues and ensure appropriate accounting treatment of business transactions. Attend and present at quarterly Audit Committee meetings. Presentation topics include our public filing materials, operational results, technical accounting matters and internal control considerations. Helps educate the team, broader finance organization, and leadership on accounting practices and processes, as needed. Proactively identify and implement process improvement opportunities. This includes being the business sponsor for IT automation and data management projects. Establish and maintain a strong internal control environment to ensure ongoing compliance with our various regulatory requirements. Oversee the preparation of ad hoc reports, financial reviews and special projects as directed by the leadership team.

What type of experience should you have?




Chartered Accountant (CPA/CA) with at least 10-12 years of progressive financial management experience. Corporate accounting leadership experience within a publicly-traded organization; experience in real estate is an asset. Consolidation and reporting experience working in a parent company with multiple business units operating in multiple geographies. Strong technical accounting knowledge and experience in IFRS is required. Previous experience managing external financial audits is required. Strong financial systems knowledge and experience is required. Comfortable with a rapidly growing, fast-paced and dynamic environment. A natural leader with strong people management and coaching skills. A strong and organized leader that can manage financial processes but also distill communication with the executive team and business leaders. Demonstrated ability to multitask, perform under pressure, meet deadlines and achieve company goals. Effective communicator and relationship builder with a wide-range of internal and external stakeholders; able to deal with people and situations in a professional manner within a dynamic environment. Able to manage competing priorities, meet deliverables while building relationships with colleagues.
