The Job You Will Perform:

International Paper has an immediate need for a Chemical Engineer, EIT - Temporary. This position is an entry-level technical resource within the manufacturing excellence (ME) team. The position requires relocation to Grande Prairie. The candidate must have reliable transportation. The mill is located approximately 12 km south of the City of Grande Prairie.

The ME processes use Lean and Six Sigma concepts to help the mill identify, prioritize, and implement key process, reliability, and cost improvement projects. This specific position works within a larger ME team, which may lead to cross-functional responsibilities. The position reports to the Manager of Manufacturing Excellence.

The Chemical Engineer-In-Training - Temporary will work closely with a variety of functional groups throughout the mill including operations, maintenance, reliability, capital engineering, manufacturing excellence, and Health and Safety. The specific responsibilities are as follows:

  • Provide visible and active leadership in delivering excellent safety results
  • Engage with business unit operations teams to support the day to day activities
  • Utilize the International Paper Management of Change process
  • Provide day-to-day technical support and process troubleshooting
  • Monitor key performance indicators to ensure reliable and low cost performance
  • Optimize processes and provide input on controls improvements
  • Manage small projects, trial plans and transition plans following capital deployment
  • Supervise work or projects during outages
  • Participate or lead failure analysis of process equipment and procedures
  • Identify, develop, manage and deliver sustainable cost savings projects targeted at achieving year over year cost reduction performance:
  • Develop project justification package for capital projects
  • Develop project cost estimates
  • Develop proposals for standard-work to improve and sustain results
  • Implement non-capital deliberate and continuous improvement initiatives

  • Strong statistical analysis skills; Minitab, SIMCA, Braincube as a strong asset
  • Utilize structured project management to plan, resource and deliver projects
  • Self-starter, team player
  • Lean & Six Sigma certifications are a strong asset.
  • Leadership skills
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\'s Degree in Chemical Engineering is preferred
  • Engineering candidates who possess a degree in another discipline and candidates without engineering degree who have relevant experience in a chemical process environment, such as process operations, or instrumentation and controls may be considered.
  • Minimum of 0-5 years\' operations, maintenance, or engineering experience in a Kraft pulp manufacturing environment
  • Manufacturing internship and/or co-op experience highly preferred.
  • Unofficial transcripts are required for interview - cumulative GPA of at least 2.8 will be preferred
