We are currently recruiting for a

Chemical Engineering Co-op Student

to join our Research & Development team at our Global Headquarters located in Acton, ON, Canada. This role is ideal for a student seeking to apply academic principles of chemical engineering in a hands-on, industrial research environment.

About the role:




Reporting to the Manager of R&D, the Co-op Student will actively participate in experimental design, product formulation, and process optimization. Responsibilities include conducting laboratory and pilot-scale trials, performing chemical analyses, supporting R&D projects, and contributing to process improvement initiatives.


This individual is highly skilled in data analysis, understanding test methods and industry product performance requirements.

Responsibilities:



Execute laboratory and pilot-scale trials, including formulation development, prototype creation, and process validation for dipping, TCR, and related applications. Participate in process validation activities, monitoring key parameters and documenting performance results to support scale-up and production readiness. Perform analytical testing and characterization of incoming raw materials to verify conformance with technical specifications and PPE testing. Compile and analyze test data, generate technical reports, and present findings to support ongoing research and development initiatives. Prepare and compound chemical formulations in accordance with established procedures and ensure all experimental protocols are followed accurately. Perform maintenance and calibration of laboratory testing equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results. Support ongoing projects for new product development.

Qualifications:



Currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering, Bachelor of Chemistry or related program (e.g., Materials, Process, or Industrial Engineering) from an accredited university or college. Strong understanding of chemical process fundamentals, such as mass and energy balances, heat transfer, and reaction engineering. Practical knowledge of laboratory techniques including solution preparation, polymer or material compounding, and wet chemistry testing. Demonstrated ability to analyze data, interpret results, and prepare detailed technical reports. Competent in the use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) Excel Macro, VB, AutoCAD and basic data analysis tools; experience with statistical or process modeling software is an asset. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team-oriented environment. Proven time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects or test schedules. Previous co-op or internship experience in R&D, manufacturing, or chemical processing environments. Strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) practices, including handling chemicals in accordance with WHMIS and lab safety protocols. Curious, self-motivated, and eager to apply academic learning to real-world R&D and production challenges. Exposure to polymer materials, coatings, adhesives, or dipping processes. (an asset) Familiarity with testing standards (ASTM, ISO) and quality control systems. (an asset) Hands-on experience with pilot-scale equipment, ovens, or laboratory testing instruments. (an asset) Experience documenting results through laboratory notebooks, technical summaries, or reports. (an asset)
