We are seeking an inspired, hands-on Chef de Cuisine to lead our kitchen and help shape the next chapter of Bao Bei.
Position Overview
The Chef de Cuisine (CDC) is responsible for the daily kitchen operations, culinary direction, team leadership, and consistently high food quality. This role works closely with ownership and the executive team to maintain Bao Bei's standards while fostering a respectful and collaborative work environment.
Key Responsibilities
Culinary Leadership
Oversee all aspects of kitchen operations, food preparation, cooking, and plating
Lead menu development, seasonal specials, and recipe creation aligned with Bao Bei's identity
Maintain exceptional food quality, consistency, and presentation standards
Operations & Management
Manage scheduling, labour budgets, inventory, and COGS targets
Ensure kitchen systems, prep lists, and service flow run smoothly and efficiently
Oversee ordering, supplier relationships, and ingredient quality
Team Development
Recruit, train, and mentor cooks and kitchen staff
Promote a positive, inclusive, and growth-oriented kitchen culture
Conduct regular performance feedback and training sessions
Food Safety & Compliance
Ensure adherence to all Vancouver Coastal Health regulations
Maintain rigorous cleanliness, sanitation, and food-safety practices
Qualifications
3-5+ years in a senior kitchen leadership role (Sous Chef or CDC)
Strong understanding of Chinese, Taiwanese, or pan-Asian flavours (or deep willingness to learn)
Experience with high-volume, quality-driven service
Proven leadership and team-building skills
Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities
Passion for local ingredients, seasonal cooking, and culinary creativity
