Your Performance Objectives - What You Will Do



Reporting to the Superintendent, the Chargehand Electrician drives project completion and customer satisfaction. Their mission is to successfully deliver small--to medium-sized commercial electrical projects, ensuring all activities are executed safely, on schedule, and within budget. This role focuses on planning, supervising, and documenting projects from mobilization to completion, all while exceeding customer expectations.



The Chargehand leads the team by teaching, coaching, and mentoring crew members in alignment with Leading Edge Electric's values, policies, and procedures. Our Chargehand Electricians are hands-on leaders who roll up their sleeves and lead by example. You will be "on the tools" at Leading Edge Electric.





In your first month, you will invest your time in learning the role:


Work side-by-side with the Operations Manager, Chargehand colleagues and the Team.

Build relationships with our local support team in our Coquitlam office.

Learn the "Leading Edge Way" of delivering exceptional value to our clients.

Learn our systems and processes.

Lead and manage our safety culture with 100% compliance.

Map out your learning objectives for the year.




Within three months, you will gain a deeper understanding of foundational knowledge and leverage that knowledge to assist colleagues:


Continue to learn the "Leading Edge Way" of delivering exceptional value to our clients.

Deepen relationships with colleagues in the Coquitlam office.

Expand your knowledge of our systems and processes.

Work independently with the team on-site, coaching, leading and mentoring team members.

Lead and manage our safety culture with 100% compliance. Build relationships and develop the skills of your team.

Provide ongoing support for projects.




Within six months, you will be an independent contributor leading your team with most aspects of your role:


Coach team members in the "Leading Edge Way" of delivering exceptional value to our clients. Ensure projects are on time and budget and deliver exceptional value. Build an engaged team of A-Players. Confidently make decisions about the best course of action for our customers.




Within twelve months, you will "own" your role and increase your contribution to the organization:


Establish your "go-to" role as a Leading Edge leader, coach and mentor on and off-site.

Establish a thorough plan and process for managing all projects to completion. Collaborate with the Operations Manager, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

Contribute to Quarterly Town Hall meetings.




Key Criteria/Requirements


Experience: Minimum of five plus (5+) years in commercial electrical construction and/or electrical service and maintenance, with at least two (2) years as a Project Lead or Chargehand with a successful track record in leading crews and large projects. Certification: Certified Inter-Provincial Red Seal Journeyman Electrician (mandatory) and FSR B (possessing or in the process of acquiring).

Extensive Installation Skills: Experience in various installations, including distribution, lighting control, fire alarm, and data systems.

Technical Skills: Proficient in electrical systems, codes, and regulations; able to read and interpret blueprints and schematics. Leadership Qualities: Demonstrated ability to lead by example, coach (on and off the tools), mentor, and motivate a team effectively.

Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with team members, clients, and management.

Problem-solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess situations and develop actionable solutions.

Work Ethic: Strong work ethic (punctual, reliable, self-motivated, and ability to work independently) with great attention to detail.

Quality Focus: Leverages expertise to consistently deliver quality work and pursues opportunities for continuous improvement.

Technological Requirements


Technology savvy and comfortable working with various software are moderate to high.

Proficient in computer software, including Google App Suite and Microsoft Windows/Office.




Core Responsibilities


Quality Control: Regularly inspect the team's work, ensuring high-quality standards are met and providing feedback as necessary. Documentation Maintenance: Maintain accurate project documentation, including as-built drawings, layouts, and progress reports, ensuring all records are current. Change Order Management: Assist project staff with managing change orders as per company processes. HR Management: Participate in hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, and performance evaluations. Hold regular 1:1 meetings with direct reports to foster career growth and development. Choose and train backups to ensure continuity of duties. Project Management: Plan, organize, and coordinate electrical projects, ensuring completion within budget and scope and compliance with standards. Assist staff with takeoffs, scopes, and schedules, submitting daily and weekly reports. Manage change orders per company process and conduct project close-out checklists. Asset Management: Manage site equipment and materials, ensuring proper ordering, receiving, storage, and use. Ensure job sites are clean and organized. Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and assign tasks to team members, fostering a collaborative, high-performance environment. Conduct site-related meetings, including safety meetings, site walkthroughs, and project forecasting and update meetings. Effectively communicate ideas, actively listen, and encourage open dialogue to ensure understanding with the team and our customers. Execution and Quality Control: Ensure high-quality work aligned with company expectations, overseeing installations, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems. Review shop drawings and verify service work orders for accuracy. Safety and Compliance: Enforce safety compliance and ensure job sites are clean and organized. Monitor and record site progress, addressing failed inspections or safety incidents. Client and Stakeholder Relations: Maintain positive and professional interactions with clients, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers. Generate RFIs to obtain necessary information during site visits and address any site-related problems promptly. General Administration: Verify employee timesheets and maintain aspects of company vehicle maintenance. Create and update processes, procedures, checklists, and documentation.
