About the role:

Under the direction of the Manager Ambulatory Mental Health, the Charge Nurse is responsible for supervising and
coordinating the day?to?day management of the activities within the Mental Health Assessment Team (MHAT). The
MHAT Charge Nurse works in conjunction with the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Emergency Department,
acute inpatient units, and Outpatient Mental Health services, as well as Northwestern Ontario's Regional hospitals.
The MHAT Charge Nurse helps direct the delivery of both in?person and virtual specialized psychiatric nursing
consults, assessments and care. The MHAT Charge Nurse will use psychiatric/mental health knowledge, skills and
abilities to ensure assessments and exceptional quality of care are provided by the MHAT team to individuals
experiencing an intense mental health problem. As part of MHAT the Charge Nurse will make, or assist other staff in
making, appropriate recommendations for patient care to the most responsible physician based on excellent
judgment and knowledge of psychopathology, risk indicators, applicable legislation and community resources.


Education/Experience:
Current unrestricted registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario, or the ability to become licensed with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
Current certification in BCLS. 5 years recent experience in Acute Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing with experience caring for patients with addictions and knowledge of mental health crisis and assessment services, crisis intervention models and practices,
community resources, risk assessment, and psychopathology.
Mandatory ASIST and NVCI training. Knowledge of current legislation, including the Mental Health Act.

Skills/Abilities:
Nursing Training and knowledge of Ontario Telemedicine Network systems. Knowledge of departmental operations including staffing resource allocation, equipment/supplies management, policies and protocols and bed management
Ability to use the Nursing Process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation) in conjunction with her/his basic and ongoing knowledge to arrive at individualized care planning and delivery.
Identify and recognize abnormal or unexpected patient responses and take appropriate action. Ability to simultaneously manage multiple nursing interventions.
Strong interprofessional and communication skills.

Assets:
Preferred certification, or recent continuing education in Mental Health/Psychiatric


Salary Range: $43.070 to 60.000
