Position Summary
The Charge Nurse (Charge RN) is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Infusion Centre located at the Winnipeg Clinic (4 Chairs), ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. This leadership role involves direct patient care, clinical oversight, staff coordination, billing oversight, and collaboration with physicians, pharmacists, vendors, and other healthcare professionals. The Charge RN acts as the primary resource for clinical decision-making, problem-solving, and daily operational flow within the infusion centre, while ensuring optimal utilization of the centre's resources through patient acquisition, program development, and strategic partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership
Oversee the safe administration of injections and infusion therapies including biologics, iron therapies, hydration solutions, and specialty medications.
Administer subcutaneous, intramuscular (IM), and intravenous (IV) medications, including TB skin tests and vaccinations.
Provide biologic medicine injection training and administration for patients and caregivers.
Perform iron infusion monitoring and administration, ensuring safe delivery and appropriate follow-up.
Monitor patients for adverse drug reactions, including ongoing vital sign assessments, and respond promptly to emergencies in collaboration with the on-site code team.
Perform intravenous insertions and access peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs) as required.
Maintain up-to-date clinical skills relevant to infusion therapy, IV initiation, and medication administration.
Operational Oversight
Coordinate daily patient flow, including appointment scheduling, chair assignment, and treatment preparation.
Assign and supervise nursing staff during shifts, ensuring appropriate coverage and skill mix.
Liaise with the Winnipeg Clinic pharmacy, laboratory, and specialty physicians to optimize patient care.
Maintain inventory of infusion-related supplies and medications in coordination with pharmacy and purchasing.
Maximize utilization of the infusion centre by acquiring patients, collaborating with physicians, and working with vendors to arrange for specialty infusion contracts and patient support programs.
Billing and Administrative Coordination
Oversee accurate and timely submission of infusion and injection service billings, ensuring compliance with Manitoba Health, private insurance, and patient support program requirements.
Verify service codes, fee structures, and insurance coverage prior to treatment.
Collaborate with the billing department to address rejected or incomplete claims.
Maintain accurate patient service logs and treatment records for billing reconciliation.
Manage booking and scheduling of appointments, ordering of equipment, and procurement of medications required for infusion services.
Staff Development and Supervision
Provide guidance, mentoring, and training to nursing staff to maintain high standards of clinical practice.
Conduct shift handovers, staff meetings, and ensure accurate documentation of care.
Participate in performance feedback and contribute to staff evaluations.
Quality and Compliance
Ensure adherence to infection prevention and control standards.
Maintain compliance with College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM) practice standards and Winnipeg Clinic policies.
Support quality improvement initiatives and participate in audits, policy reviews, and accreditation processes.
Patient Experience
Promote a comfortable, professional, and patient-focused environment.
Provide comprehensive patient education on pre-treatment preparation, infusion procedures, and post-treatment care.
Address patient concerns promptly and professionally.
Qualifications
Current registration and good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM).
Current BLS certification.
Minimum of 3 years nursing experience, including at least 1 year in infusion therapy or acute care.
Previous leadership or charge nurse experience preferred.
Proficiency in IV initiation, venipuncture, infusion pump operation, and PICC access.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of medical billing processes and experience with EMR systems preferred (Accuro).

Pay: $35.43-$42.51 per hour
