JOB SUMMARY
Working from a Christian Faith based perspective, the Chaplain responds with compassion and inclusiveness to the spiritual health needs identified by residents, their families, and staff through a process of assessment and care. Over intentional relationship building the Chaplain comes along side to assist individuals to live well and, through end-of-life care, provide support that contributes to dying well. As part of a multi-disciplinary team, the Chaplain is skilled in offering existential, spiritual, and religious resident care across beliefs, cultural perspectives, and practices.
QUALIFICATIONS
Training in Theology, Counselling, Social Work, or related discipline.
Education or experience relevant to spiritual care within a multicultural and faith setting.
Experience addressing the needs of residents and families encountering crisis, disability, loss, bereavement, and end-of-life.
Training and/or experience working with older adults and individuals living with a variety of conditions and cognitive impairments included dementia.
Solid understanding and adherence to Christian theology and principles.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Able to generate rapport rapidly and with a wide diversity of residents and those close to them.

Strong understanding and compliance with the principles and practice of confidentiality.
Clear understanding of the palliative care philosophy and end of life care at Elim Village.
Able to uphold ethical and professional standards and conduct themselves in a manner that upholds the values, standards of care and heritage of Elim Village.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain an active and visible role within the Full Care department at Elim Village
Builds relationships by coming alongside residents and families in a variety of areas but not limited to: emotional and spiritual wellbeing, dealing with issues of death and dying, spiritual/emotional distress, adaptation to the illness, social functioning, advocacy issues and communication.
Works closely with team members in handling situations requiring grief support and (or) spiritual/emotional support.
Represents the Pastoral team in weekly resident care conference meetings preparing and providing a spiritual overview and assessment for each resident participant.
Builds relationships by coming alongside fellow staff members and volunteers providing emotional and spiritual support as needed and requested.
Attends the Full Care Core Team meetings
Acts as an ad hoc resource and support for the care team and with their own self-care and needs, as health care providers.
As able, participates as part of the Pastoral team in programming and events.
Other duties such as, but not limited to; documentation, record keeping is required for operational purposes

Salary range: $36.99 - $41.85 per hour
