The Department of History and Global Asia program is a dynamic academic unit in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. We support faculty and students through academic and programmatic assistance, event planning, and day-to-day administration. About the Role




This role provides critical administrative and secretarial support to the Department of History and Global Asia (GA) program, serving both the History's Department Chair, Director of GA and History's Graduate Program Chair. As a key point of contact for faculty and graduate students, the position supports a wide range of academic functions -- from coordinating graduate admissions and thesis defenses to supporting faculty appointments and departmental committees. The successful candidate will contribute directly to the department's goals of academic excellence, inclusive student support, and operational effectiveness. Furthermore, this role supports faculty renewal processes, graduate student funding coordination, and the preparation for an upcoming departmental review. It's an exciting opportunity to join a collaborative team and contribute meaningfully to the department's success.


The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced academic environment. They demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to support both faculty and students with professionalism and discretion. Strong judgment, initiative, and the ability to manage multiple priorities are essential. Proficiency with administrative systems, database management, and Microsoft Office is expected. Familiarity with SFU processes or post-secondary environments is an asset. The successful candidate will be a collaborative team player who values equity, inclusion, and student-centered service.
