Position Summary

The Academic Chair will report to the Dean and provide academic leadership and management to the newly created School of Computer Programming. within the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering Technology (FASET). They will collaborate with the administrative team to implement strategic initiatives that align with the college\'s long-term goals and prioritize the delivery of high-quality programs and student success. The Chair will be accountable for program quality, team leadership, and fostering a positive school identity. They will ensure compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements, build strong relationships with other faculties, collaborate with colleagues across Seneca, and engage with industry partners and professional associations.

Responsibilities

Academic Leadership in Program and Strategic Planning

  • Serves as the primary contact for Seneca departments and community partners regarding the day-to-day operations of the school, with the aim of achieving both operational and strategic effectiveness.
  • Works collaboratively with staff, faculty, and fellow chairs in developing and implementing Seneca\'s strategic initiatives.
  • Oversees the planning, development, and accuracy of curriculum for course/program planning and delivery, ensuring alignment with Seneca, the Ministry of Colleges, and Universities (MCU), and industry/accreditation standards (where applicable).
  • Implements measures to create and support an equitable and positive work and learning environment for staff, faculty, and students.
Resource Management: Human, Financial, and Physical
  • Recruits, develops, and manages the performance of staff/faculty, including conducting performance reviews, overseeing the Faculty Development Portfolio process, managing workloads, reviewing professional development plans, and ensuring compliance with relevant employment laws.
  • Provides support, coaching, and mentoring to full-time and contract faculty, as well as support staff, to facilitate the achievement of the school\'s operational plans.
  • Collaborates with the Dean and stakeholders to participate in integrated planning and budgeting processes for the school.
  • Facilitates connections and collaborations between the school, other faculties, College departments, and external institutions to enhance program offerings.
  • Actively participates in external events and outreach activities that benefit both the School and Seneca as a whole.
Student Success and Related Supports
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for resolving academic-level disputes involving faculty/staff and students, stepping in when issues cannot be resolved at the faculty/staff level.
  • Supports students with challenges or other related issues that may impact their learning and success, ensuring access to necessary services.
  • Cultivates positive and continuous relationships with students and alumni, fostering a supportive and engaged community.
Research, Innovation and College-Wide Requirements
  • Facilitates the development of an applied research culture within the school, encouraging and supporting faculty and student participation in applied research activities.
  • Keeps abreast of advancements in teaching and learning, emerging educational technologies, and developments in the program field(s) of study.
  • Ensures compliance with occupational health and safety requirements and maintains departmental adherence to safety protocols.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education
  • Completed Master\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in a closely related field.
Experience
  • Nine (9) years of relevant administrative experience, preferably in the discipline of the school, or a combination of post-secondary teaching experience and progressive work experience in computer programming, software development, IT product and service management, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated progressive senior leadership experience in multiple functions within a large and diverse organization.
Skills

  • Possesses excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills.

Note:
  • A skills assessment will be required during the recruitment process.
