Job Description


Duties:The Chair of Hairdressing and Esthetics & Spa Therapy Programs will oversee the coordination of both the Hairdressing and Esthetics & Spa Therapy programs, providing comprehensive support to faculty and students in both areas. This role encompasses a range of responsibilities including administration, budgeting, curriculum development, student recruitment, and industry liaison.Key Responsibilities:

  • Administration and Budgeting: Manage administrative tasks such as budget planning, FTE tracking, and University/Continuing Education calendar preparation for both programs. Oversee advertising, publicity efforts, and handle student certificates, departmental job postings, and appointment forms.
  • Program Coordination: Coordinate program reviews, new program development, and curriculum updates for both the Hairdressing and Esthetics & Spa Therapy programs. Participate in Trades and Applied Technology management, including serving on institutional committees as required.
  • Student Support and Recruitment: Lead student recruitment efforts by conducting interviews, selecting prospective students, and monitoring their progress. Manage student intake, referrals, and work experience placements. Handle inquiries, interviews, and performance contracts, ensuring ongoing support and guidance for students.
  • Faculty and Staff Management: Chair department meetings, conduct evaluations of support staff and temporary faculty, and manage timetabling. Foster a collaborative and supportive environment among faculty and staff members.
  • Industry Liaison and Support Services: Maintain strong relationships with local industry partners, sponsoring agents, and relevant stakeholders. Host annual PAC meetings. Provide advising, counseling, registration assistance, and financial aid support to students. Ensure accurate recording of grades, reports, and certificates for both programs.
This role requires strong organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills to effectively manage the diverse needs of both the Hairdressing and Esthetics & Spa Therapy programs. The Chair of Hairdressing and Esthetics & Spa Therapy plays a pivotal role in ensuring the success and growth of these programs within the institution.Required Qualifications:A regular faculty member who is currently qualified to instruct in the program area and who has instructor training (i.e. Provincial Instructor\'s Diploma) or program specific qualifications. Familiarity with, and demonstrated skills, in teaching adults. Demonstrated a high level of communication (written and verbal) and excellent interpersonal skills. Familiarity with Vancouver Island University Programs, policies and procedures.
