Position Overview
The Central Service Associate (CSA) is responsible for the daily provision of library services for Saskatoon Public Library (SPL) at the central library. The majority of the work of the CSA involves actively engaging the public to assist with public access to library services. The CSA may work outside the central library at events in the community.
This position predominantly works with the public at the central library in a busy downtown neighbourhood. This work frequently involves working with people who attend the central library for in-depth research, for access to expanded services and collections, people who work or live downtown, and people who face barriers to library service, marginalization and/or social exclusion.
The CSA works cooperatively with colleagues at the central library to ensure that the daily operational needs of the central library are met.
Key Duties
1.
Circulation & customer service:
Circulation of library material, assisting patrons to use quick checkouts, creating, and managing patron accounts, resolving routine patron concerns, and escalating concerns as necessary.

Reference & readers' advisory:
Responding to information inquiries, including reference interviews, readers' advisory, assisting patrons in using library technologies (including assistive technology, and specialized equipment).
3.
Administrative duties:
Room bookings, routine financial transactions, cash handling, entering patron incidents and other statistics into databases, sending letters and other communications to assist Senior Library Service Associate or Senior Manager.

Operational duties:
Opening and closing duties, daily branch operations, creating displays, supply ordering and organizing, including operational oversight.

Events:
Giving library tours & hosting programs.
6.
Outreach:
Outreach and participating in library programs and events in the community.
Qualifications
Completion of a Library and Information Technology diploma OR two years post-secondary plus completion of two SPL-approved library-related courses, which may be completed after hire. Degrees and diplomas must be from an accredited institution.
Minimum of two years experience within the past five years working directly with the public, including one year experience working with the public in a public library.
