About the Position:




The Central Care Attendant (Attendant) helps MPG achieve its mission of serving the diverse clients and communities of yesterday, today, and tomorrow with excellences and compassion to meet all their death care needs. The Attendant is responsible for the respectful and dignified handling and transportation of deceased individuals. Their primary role is to safely and compassionately transport deceased bodies from various to and within MPG.

The successful candidate will be required to:



Transportation & Transfer



Safely and respectfully transfer human remains from various locations within the Greater Toronto Area, including hospitals, long-term care facilities, hospices, and private residences. Perform physical tasks such as: Handling human remains with dignity and professionalism. Wrapping remains in sheets or pouches to prepare for transport. Placing remains onto stretchers and securing them appropriately. Safely loading and unloading remains from vehicles. Provide transportation services for the Office of the Chief Coroner, including transferring human remains for investigative purposes within specific timelines. Handle and lift caskets with care, utilizing proper equipment and techniques to ensure safety and dignity during transfers. Operate company vehicles in strict adherence to the Highway Traffic Act and company policies, ensuring a safe and respectful transportation process.

Administrative Duties



Accurately document and track the movement of human remains, personal effects, and cremation-related items using the company's software system. Verify the identification of human remains during transfers, cross-referencing against the Medical Certificate of Death and other required documentation. Obtain Coroner's Cremation Certificates and complete the registration of deaths in accordance with provincial regulations. Ensure all records and documentation meet legal and company standards.

Funeral Support



Assist the Embalmer with body preparation tasks, such as washing, dressing, and placing remains into caskets, adhering to the highest standards of respect and care. Handle cremated remains with sensitivity, transferring them into urns or other specified vessels per family instructions.

Facilities & Vehicles



Monitor and replenish supply inventory, ensuring all necessary items are readily available for operations. Ensure company vehicles are clean, presentable, and in good working condition, performing routine washing and interior care as needed. Support the maintenance of a clean and organized facility by performing tasks such as garbage disposal, mopping, and dusting to maintain a professional environment.

Other Duties



Additional duties, and tasks that fall within the scope of the role as assigned by the Assistant Manager and/or Manager, Funeral Services.

Qualifications:



High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or at least one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience A valid Ontario "G" driver's licence with a clean driver's abstract Previous Funeral experience is an asset Must consent to and pass a Criminal Background check, and a Criminal Record and Judicial Matter check Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times Maintain professionalism and exercise discretion when managing confidential information Must be able to operate and maintain vehicle safely while abiding by the Highway Traffic Act and the rules of the road Physical manual labour required, must be able to lift in work safe guidelines Knowledge of hospitals, nursing homes, cemeteries, crematoria, and mausoleums within the GTA Familiarity with funeral home environment and internal policies and procedures. Sensitivity to persons in bereavement and understanding a variety of cultural and religious funeral expectations Intermediate proficiency of Windows and MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook Familiarity with funeral home environment and internal policies and procedures is an asset
