Hours: Monday - Friday (0700-1500 and 1500-2300 and 2300-0700)
Pay Rate: $17.69/ hr.

Site Description: Established in 1966, Centennial College is Ontario’s first community college serving the eastern portion of the Greater Toronto Area through four campuses and five satellite locations. Centennial College offers programs in business, communications, community and health studies, science and engineering technology, general arts, hospitality and transportation.

Centennial Place, Centennial College’s new student residence opening August 2016, gives students the convenience they want with the lifestyle they are looking for. The fully furnished, state of the art facility will not only provide the atmosphere students need to be academically successful, but also an environment to help students create lasting memories and grow as an individual.

:

  • Utilizing two-way radio communication and Perspective software, will oversee the tracking and deployment of security personnel across all Centennial College Campuses.
  • Monitor numerous systems including fire and life safety, access control and parking
  • Assign reports to security personnel when required using Perspective reporting software
  • Stationed at the main security desk, assist Centennial faculty, students and visitors with various inquiries and concerns
  • Assist student, staff and faculty during crisis and contact and liaise with the necessary emergency services as needed
  • Be able to comprehend and demonstrate competencies of Centennial College and Centennial Campus Security policies and procedures with an ability to use a customer service approach
  • Follow direction and requests of Client/CSM/Supervisors as required.
  • Sustain effective relationships with key stakeholders and provide specialized security services by enforcing college’s rules and regulations when required.
  • Encourage students to make connections with College resources and the community by building a safe and supportive environment.
  • Be an accurate and dependable resource having knowledge about services on campus
  • Be able to facilitate an environment that allows students to meet their academic goals.
  • Help develop an atmosphere in which students have concern and respect for the rights of others
  • Be able to keep an open and objective mind, remembering the college’s diverse community.
  • Keep records of all key sign sheets, security personnel equipment sign out, parking inquiries, lost and found, and other requirements are all properly documented and followed
  • Be attentive to the needs of the student, faculty and staff incidents as well as be able to build relationships with the college community.

Job Duties
  • Ability to work independently or with a team
  • Enthusiastically conducts proactive patrols to build relationships with students, staff and faculty as well as be able to address policy breeches, and note facility concerns.
  • Ability to write detailed incident reports for all emergency and day to day activities
  • Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of employees, students and other persons
  • Ability to de-escalate a crisis situation, provide support and liaise with emergency personnel including; police, fire and paramedic resources.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
  • Logging in/out of Key, Radio and pager audits
  • Handle Lost & Found items and inquiries
  • Report any unsafe working conditions in any/all departments
  • Ability to provide first aid and medical response when required to any person(s)
  • Excellent Deportment


Job Requirements
  • Dispatch Operator experience in a post-secondary or healthcare field would be an asset.
  • Post-Secondary education would be an asset.
  • Must possess excellent organization abilities and adapt to the needs of their employees
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must have a customer service oriented attitude
  • Must have the following training and Certifications:
o Valid Security License for the Province of Ontario
o First Aid/CPR and AED certification
o Smart Serve Certification
o Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification
o Use of Force certification
o G-Level Driver’s License, with 5 year’s driving experience and no highway traffic violations
  • Physical Demands; sitting for extended periods of time
  • Utilize two-way radio and computer applications
  • Excellent verbal and written English communications skills required. Bilingual and Multilingual applicants preferred.
  • Previous knowledge of Perspective reporting software an asset
  • Previous knowledge of Guardall access control software an asset
  • Must participate in professional development and on site leveling system requirements
  • Safe Talk and/or ASIST training would be an asset
  • Must be flexible with shift availability (security operates 24 hours/day)
  • Previous experience or training within a loss prevention/security field preferred
  • Must complete all required site training within 30 day of on-site hire date
  • Additional job-related task and duties as assigned
  • Applicants cannot be current students at the campus they wish to work
