About This Location:




Our Home Office is located in the heart of Bloor West Village in Toronto, just steps away from Jane Subway station. This role is office-based with a requirement of up to 5 days per week in the office. Depending on company policy, occasional work-from-home days may be possible (home internet connectivity required).

About This Role:




Reporting to the Design Team Supervisor in the Construction and Development department, the Level 1 Cemetery Mapping & Inventory CAD Technician supports the production of high-quality mapping and conceptual garden planning for cemetery properties, in alignment with Arbor's professional standards and workflows.


This entry-level position focuses on learning Arbor's drafting standards, terminology, and processes while producing routine and straightforward drawings and maps, primarily monthly map updates, FOCUS addition/deletion requests, simple inventory clean-up, and basic project drawings.


Working under close supervision, the Level 1 technician contributes to accurate, reliable, and clear garden & structure maps used across Arbor by branches, internal teams, and customers. They collaborate with the Design Team, administrators, Project Managers and other departments to ensure the successful and timely completion of projects, supporting efficient land use and cemetery inventory planning to meet customer needs and business goals.

Key Qualifications and Demonstrated Abilities:



Completion of a College Diploma in Architectural Technician, Civil Engineering Technician, Landscape Design, or another related CAD- and mapping-focused program from an accredited post-secondary institution. Up to 2 years of related drafting experience in a professional, academic, or training setting, including coursework, co-op placements, or internships. Experience reading basic site plans or maps. Thorough and proficient understanding of 2D AutoCAD software. Comfortable in drafting basic layouts, using company or project templates, title blocks, and standard layer organization. Able to produce accurate, scaled drawings from written and/ or verbal instructions, sketches or markups. Comfortable with common drafting tools and commands, including drawing creation, editing tools, layer management, text and dimensions, and plotting/printing to PDF. Basic understanding of inserting and managing blocks and Xrefs. Competent in Microsoft Office for basic documentation, communication, and file management. Comfortable learning and working within new software platforms. Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organization. Good written and verbal communication skills. Well-organized and able to follow established processes and workflows. Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work independently or collaboratively. Ability to work independently on routine tasks and as part of a collaborative team. Reliable and committed to meeting deadlines. Experience with graphic software (e.g., SketchUp, Illustrator, Photoshop) and familiarity with mapping databases or GIS concepts is an asset. Responsibilities:



Update and maintain cemetery maps on a regular schedule, as well as make urgent changes when needed, such as adding or removing burial spaces or cleaning up outdated information, under the guidance of a supervisor. Create simple project drawings, including layout drawings for monuments or markers, maps for government submissions, and basic garden or structure layouts, following established company standards. Ensure all maps and drawings are clear, accurate, and formatted to company standards, using correct layers, linetypes, text styles, and symbols. Assist in preparing larger-scale property maps, general overview maps, and simple block or layout plans, with step-by-step instruction from senior staff. Update older cemetery maps so they meet current mapping standards and are consistent with current company records. Collaborate with internal departments (e.g., Sales, Operations) to ensure maps and drawings meet their needs and support their work. Distribute drawings, plans, and supporting materials internally for review or external submission, following established workflows. Follow all drafting standards, workflows, mapping procedures, and file management protocols, using checklists and supervisor guidance to maintain quality and consistency; identify and communicate changes that may affect deliverables.
