Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education
is responsible for the administration of the public school system within the boundaries of Cape Breton and Victoria Counties, supporting approximately 12,000 students in 38 schools.

AVAILABLE POSITION: Custodian, Marion Bridge Elementary School
HOURS OF WORK
: Monday to Friday, 6.5 hours daily (Please note this position entails a split shift with morning and afternoon hours. Some evening and weekend hours may be required)
WORK TERM:
Permanent regular position (working 10 months per year)
RATE OF PAY:
$22.42 per hour
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have WHMIS training.
Grade 12 education or acceptable equivalent in experience and training.
Demonstrated ability to do work as required in the posted positions, and the ability to work with others and provide assistance.
Reliable and conscientious.
Acceptable record of attendance in prior employment
General knowledge of cleaning equipment and materials.
General knowledge and ability to complete minor maintenance and repairs.
Experience as a Cleaner with CBVRCE or with other commercial/public institutions, or with a contractor.
Ability to adequately secure a building using locks, alarm systems, and other building devices designed for security.
CUSTODIAN (CARETAKER)
TITLE:
PERSON WHO CLEANS SCHOOLS AND/OR BUILDINGS AND DOES MINOR REPAIRS (INCLUDING SIMPLEPREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE WITHIN THE BUILDING - SITE BASED
ROLE:
The cleaning of the school building and facilities to a sanitary, safe, and attractive level.
Responsibilities:
Clean, on a daily or as scheduled basis, all assigned areas of the school and perform minor maintenance in accordance with established practices and standards;
Perform routine inspections and maintenance of building systems;
Maintain records with respect to systems, condition of the school and equipment;
Report any breakdowns, accidents, damage or vandalism to the appropriate Supervisor;
Order and maintain adequate cleaning supplies for the school and control theinventory and the use of these supplies within the school;
Secure all doors and windows whenever the building is vacated and activate security system if last person to vacate building;
Perform minor maintenance tasks such as, but not limited to, installing window blinds,draperies, maps, replacing light bulbs, "touch-up" painting, minor repairs to windows, walls, doors, locks, furniture, installing window screens, mowing grass, etc.;
Check for repairs required to infrastructure and report maintenance requirements;
Set-up furnishings as required.
Perform duties in compliance with school, Operations Department, and Board policies and procedure including occupational health,safety, attendance, work routines, WHMIS and evacuation plans and the laws of the Province of Nova Scotia .
Maybe required to assist in "after-hours" emergencies (evenings, weekend, andholiday coverage), and be available for weekend coverage as required by the School Board;
Other related duties as assigned.
