  • This position provides the option to work from home on Mondays and Fridays each week, with the requirement to report to the primary NOVA Chemicals work location on Tuesdays through Thursdays. Employees can opt out of the hybrid schedule and will be expected to work Monday-Friday from the primary work location.

The successful candidate for this role will lead various initiatives within the catalyst category, collaborating with Innovation and manufacturing locations. A key focus will be on identifying risk mitigation opportunities (e.g., reducing sole-sourced catalysts by qualifying backup/secondary sources) and exploring additional business development opportunities to support growth, sustainable procurement, and drive bottom line savings. As needed, the role will assist with the preparation of acquisition plans and formal commodity strategies, lead negotiations, develop and execute contracts involving major spend commitments, and monitor and optimize NOVA\'s existing supply arrangements. The primary responsibilities will include procurement and strategy, cost reduction, supplier quality improvement, identifying and managing supply risks, managing strategic supplier relationships, and working to develop catalyst process/system improvements while collaborating with key suppliers on innovative technologies.You Will Use Your Expertise To:
  • Play a key role in the development of reliable purchasing business strategies that create differentiated PE product performance using new technology.
  • Collaborate across assets and functions with senior leadership in the alignment of business plans/strategies.
  • Identify and resolves issues arising out of the S&OP processes to ensure meeting business goals and ensuring qualification of new raw materials through EOI process.
  • Implement business/operating strategies and plans to improve business profitability.
  • Understand the full implications of the competitive environment; develop and recommend strategic options to NOVA Chemicals\' leadership and participates in their implementation.
  • Identify new raw materials development efforts/opportunities based on an in-depth knowledge of key market trends and the needs of converters and end users.
  • Influence and manage pricing policies consistent with business and/or operating strategies/plans.
  • Apply expert knowledge and analysis of business tools to recommend and implement actions to deliver the highest value for NOVA Chemicals\' shareholders.
  • Represent NOVA Chemicals\' position or strategy at appropriate external industry functions; interpret and use industry data in strategy development.
  • Maintain awareness on regulatory issues that affect additive business for polyethylene and take proactive action.
  • Lead collaboration with Innovation and Manufacturing functions with solid chemistry and engineering skills.
  • Coach, mentor, and provide informal leadership to less senior team members and internal clients on strategy, negotiations, supplier management, and Raw Materials purchasing policies and practices.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships between the Raw Materials Team and our key internal clients.
  • Identify improvement opportunities tied to the assigned Raw Materials portfolio and work to prioritize them with internal clients.
  • Participate in, facilitate, and lead cross-functional project teams and initiatives to implement solutions to complex and multi-dimensional problems.
  • Develop and implement Purchasing strategies for assigned projects and commodities, including leveraging opportunities across regions.
  • Integrate in-depth knowledge of Purchasing strategies and market dynamics to develop and apply innovative solutions to meet both short-term and long-term supply requirements and resolve pricing / contract issues during negotiations.
  • Develop and gain approval of Commodity Acquisition Plans and lead negotiations for all assigned commodities and services.
  • Manage assigned commodities and the associated supplier relationships through the development maintenance of formal Commodity Strategies and Supplier Relationship Management Plans.
  • Provide a high level of customer service and work effectively within a team environment at all levels within NOVA Chemicals.
  • Serve as a champion for Raw Materials Team objectives within NOVA Chemicals, at the manufacturing sites, within Innovation, and with the supplier community.
What We Are Looking For:
  • University graduate with 10+ years related experience and continued professional development OR 14+ years combination of post-secondary education and related experience with continued professional development.
  • University graduate with MBA and 10+ years related experience in Innovation, business analytics, legal and commercial would be an asset.
  • Strong chemistry expertise and/or chemical engineering skills and knowledge.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of NOVA\'s business processes and practices and how they impact business.
  • Proven track record of effective leadership and successful outcomes. Strong business acumen demonstrated through ability to provide solutions using an analytical and critical approach, coupled with creativity, strategic planning, and solid decision-making skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Broad understanding of Supply Chain concepts.
  • Ability to understand and manage the inter-relationships between functions when operational, technical, or commercial issues arise with our raw materials.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking, planning, and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within teams and interact effectively with senior leaders, various Leadership Teams and Decision Boards, and functional peers in Operations, Technology, Planning, Logistics, Quality, and Responsible Care - both within NOVA Chemicals and with the supply base.
  • Strong ability to solve problems, present ideas, influence, mediate, and negotiate.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communications, and team building skills.
  • Demonstrated change management and conflict resolution experience.
  • Must be highly motivated, results oriented, and have the ability to provide a high level of client focus and service.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive projects through various phases, from idea generation to implementation.
  • Must be able to prioritize and handle competing demands. This role requires flexibility and the ability to deal with change.
  • Strong working knowledge of the MS Office suite of products and working knowledge of SAP.
