With this role; the Category Manager, bedding will be responsible for building a profitable assortment and supplier strategy, sourcing and selecting products, and delivering financial results in line with company plans. Your strong negotiation skills will allow you to establish costs, discounts, and advertising support to ensure that Giant Tiger continues to offer outstanding value to its customers.

Category Manager, Bedding (Buyer), Job Highlights

Develop product assortments that address customer needs and company objectives;

Negotiate costs and terms to ensure that stores are maximizing profit at competitive prices;

Maintain excellent ongoing relationships with vendors and conduct vendor meetings as required;

Develop class and item strategies that align with current business objectives;

Conduct regular competition checks to ensure product assortments are current and relevant;

Plan items for our promotional flyers as well as seasonal event activities;

Establish action plans to achieve sales, margin and turnover objectives.

Attend trade shows overseas and local to find new vendors and item opportunities.

Category Manager, Bedding (Buyer), Key Qualifications

1 to 3 years work experience as a buyer managing large portfolios in a retail environment

Post-secondary education diploma or a combination of experience and education;

Strong negotiation skills and an understanding of the finesse and subtle nuances needed to negotiate large accounts;

Excellent understanding of the importance of analysis and planning, with an ability to organize, prioritize and delegate in a challenging, fast-paced environment;

Strong interpersonal, listening, communication, and presentation skills;

Proven leader capable of managing, motivating, and building a team by conveying work ethic, initiative, and passion;

Strong skills in Microsoft Excel and Word, and an ability to learn new applications quickly;

Ability to travel domestically and internationally;

Ability to multitask and handle the pressures of a fast paced environment;

Experience with AS/400 or similar software programs is an asset;

Experience with Business Intelligence (BI) is an asset.
