Job Description

As a respite worker, you will spend quality time with the individual and ensure they are safely returned to their residence at the end of each shift. This role offers a meaningful opportunity to build relationships, support others, and make a positive impact in someone's life.


Respite services will be primarily provided in the employee's home or within the community, rather than in the individual's residence. Employees are expected to maintain a safe, welcoming environment in their home suitable for the individual receiving respite care. Community-based activities may include outings such as park visits, recreational centers, or other appropriate public settings, promoting social interaction and skill development.

Availability to begin training immediately is an asset.




Daily rhythm and responsibilities are much like in any household where members of the household require personal care support:

Assisting with hygiene care and using the toilet as needed Supporting Core Members in following the direction of medical professionals, including administering medication Cooking & cleaning Driving to and from core members' home Providing 52 hours per month of personal care to a gentle, fragile core member in your home

More importantly, assistants have the responsibility of building community by spending time getting to know people in the home, sharing activities together, and learning about themselves and others as they discover that they can just be themselves and be valued and appreciated for who they are.

Qualifications:



High School Diploma or Equivalent Vulnerable Sector Check First Aid CPR/AED Core Competencies as required by the Department of Community Services This role involves manual handling to assist with mobility Ability to wear PPE as required and directed by our L'Arche community, including masks, gowns, and other PPE that may be required to keep people with intellectual disabilities and other employees safe when required Previous experience supporting adults with intellectual disabilities is an asset Driver's License and personal vehicle use is required Ability to travel to work during inclement weather, including winter storms and severe weather events or to make arrangements to find a suitable replacement Legally eligible to work in Canada

Our L'Arche community will provide core competency training to candidates who are successful in their application but who lack this training. Candidates who do not possess a valid First Aid Certificate and Vulnerable Sector Check at the time of application will be required to source these at their own cost.
