At IDM Youth Services (IDMYS) we believe that all people have the right to live in a safe, stable, supportive environment. IDMYS provides all-inclusive care in a residential setting to one of the most vulnerable populations, at-risk children and youth. All-inclusive care is everything from cooking, cleaning, driving to and from appointments, administering medications, offering emotional and behavioral support, going on fun outings, and more! Our team at IDMYS is dedicated to providing exceptional care and support in everything we do for the people we serve.



We are currently looking for Casual Residential Child and Youth Workers

to

join our amazing team! Preference for Applicants who are able to work weekends.





Candidates must be local to Vancouver Island to be considered.

Compensation, hours, and location:





The Residential Child and Youth Worker is Grid 11, Compensation starts at $27.54 and requires union membership.



Casual employees will receive 10.6% of their straight time pay in lieu of scheduled vacations and paid holidays.



Hours are varied and a variety of shifts are available at locations around the Westshore, Malahat, and Saanich.

Casual employees must be available for:





1. A minimum of 16 shifts per month.



a. Must include a minimum of 4 evening shifts per month.



b. Must be available for a minimum of 2 weekend shifts per month.



c. Will indicate before November 5th each year, their availability to work two (2) of the following statutory holidays: Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, plus no fewer than four (4) other shifts between December 15th and January 7th.



2. Provided that 3 months' notice is provided to the Employer, casual employees may be unavailable for a maximum of 2 statutory holidays per year.



3. Must be available to work on all statutory holidays with the exceptions listed above.


4. Casual Pool Employees are not eligible for extended health benefits



5. On the first (1st) day of each month, employees choosing to work casual shifts will submit their dates and hours of availability for the following month, (i.e. June 1st for the month of July). The availability form will be submitted to the scheduling email.



6. Casual Pool Employees will be located at all IDM Worksites.




Who We're Looking For:





Candidates who are looking to contribute to the growth and development of others, have a passion for helping others, and have experience working with at-risk children and youth. Candidates who are looking to grow their career in the social services field.



Candidates who are positive, empathetic, and hard working.





Additional qualities we look for are:


Ability to work as a team and contribute to the plans of care. Excellent communicator who is understanding, patient, and non-judgmental while providing exceptional care to our youth. Computer literacy - ability to use multiple technology platforms. Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.


Preference Given to those who have:


Experience working with at-risk youth and/or people who have a mental health diagnosis. Understanding of Trauma Informed Care, and experience providing trauma informed counselling (through behavior management, attachment based, relational, or other appropriate modalities). Experience administering and documenting daily medications. Experience working with suicide prevention and self-harm behaviour. Education in a related field (education, psychology, child and youth care, counselling, health care).

Qualification Requirements:




Diploma in a related human/social service field and

Two years recent related experience.

Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must be 19 years or older. The equivalent to a Class 5 Driver's license required.
Must obtain and maintain screening through the MCFD and the Ministry of Justice.



Prior to confirmation of employment all applicants must complete screening through the Ministry of Justice and a Ministry Check. This requires applicants to provide police clearances from any country lived in outside of Canada for 6 or more month since turning 18. These checks can take up to 8 weeks to obtain, please ensure you prepare accordingly.
