- This role is in-person at North Campus Edmonton.


Under the supervision and guidance of the Program Manager, Lead Coordinator and Research Director, the role of the Research Nurse is to recruit for ongoing research projects led by the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine. The Research Nurse will screen and approach families in the Stollery Emergency Department (ED), administer study procedures and questionnaires, administer study medications as required, and complete study specific documentation. This position will require a high degree of professionalism and strong communication skills to facilitate successful recruitment of study participants.

Approach the subject and/or family for informed consent by providing an explanation of the proposed study and answer any questions they may have about the study or study drugs
Conduct study procedures within the required timelines outlined in the study protocol
Administer study drug and collect data, including patient vital signs, pain scores, level of consciousness and other related data
Collect research information and other study data through subject interview and clinical record review (ex. Connect Care). Ensure all information collected is accurate and complete, and is collected according to the methods and guidelines of each individual research project Administer research questionnaires to study subjects using methods outlined in the protocol Collect, process and deliver biological samples to related study laboratories and perform clinical related study procedures Monitor the patient for any adverse events during their enrollment in the study Document serious and minor adverse events for regulatory overview; report adverse events to supervisor promptly Enter collected data into the appropriate electronic databases (REDCap); retrieve additional data or correct existing data; respond to database queries Interact with any health care staff involved in the conduct of study procedures (clinical staff) Attend study related training, and monthly Pediatric Emergency Medicine research staff meetings Conduct daily aspects of studies according to defined study protocols and maintain study specific source documents Review, become knowledgeable about and adhere to multiple research protocols according to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines. Complete required online training modules including: ICH-GCP, Health Canada Division 5, TCPS- 2, AHS confidentiality training, AHS Infection Prevention and Control training and ConnectCare training Administer investigational drugs for participants in clinical trials (e.g. intravenous push medications, intranasal anxiolytics and nitrous oxide) The preferred candidate will be a Registered Nurse (RN); completed a degree in Nursing or be a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Computer and iPad proficiency is required Excellent communication (verbal and written) and decision making skills Ability to work efficiently in a professional and ethical manner in accordance with University of Alberta and Alberta Health Services policies and procedures Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; ability to work in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision Preferred: Proficiency with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), data management software (REDCap), and clinical record software (ConnectCare) is an asset Emergency medicine or Pediatrics experience is an asset 1 year related experience in a research environment (specifically clinical trials), healthcare, or work with families/children is an asset
